As others have pointed out, the likely cause is that politics doesn’t change with age, it changes with one’s investment in the status quo. The most likely reason that this effect is breaking down is because most people born after Reagan’s presidency were never given any means to become invested in this system. If you’ve got no assets and lots of debt, fearmongering that immigrants are coming to take your job or wealth doesn’t work.
I have no beef with Op, dude. And honestly – and I’m speaking to any third parties, because I get that you’re unpersuadeable – if you ever meet someone who cannot reconcile any genuine criticism without declaring that the messenger is a fascist agent AND that the criticism is fully personal… talk to them.
Either this person needs to learn to hold space for good faith disagreement or they will only follow their own impulses and cut off you if you ever disagree.
@pde: We can disagree without it being personal and without me being a fascist. Read that again.
