@FayeDrake depends on your definition of normal, literally; if normal is furries, hang out in places furries hang out. if normal is people who hang out in bars, you could try a bar I suppose, but yea it depends what you like. Hackerspaces can be fun places to just hang out and talk with people in too. Some museums and alike have similar clubs centered around a subject. Might be other kinds of events and places to explore in your area, can help panning a bit about with google maps to see options.
@FayeDrake also good to mention: digital places can still be real places with real people. I've also heard of a lot of people making new friends in VR and such, but it depends on whether you like VR. IRC can also be cozy, and discord and slack and what not else chat groups of your preferred platform.
edit: and while on the subject of IRC, you can probably find MUD (Multi User Dungeon) and MUCKs, which is like a chatroom but with more roleplay, definitely fun if you're into that sorta thing tbh
I guess I shouldn't be very surprised that editing a toot would cause a bunch of sidekiq requests but not the same amount as a full toot, yet I somehow felt just compelled enough to add this to this thread so here we are. makes me wonder how that works though 🤔 you'd think it'd cause similar requests and what not? maybe I should read the spec instead of spec-ulate but I am far too eepy for research tbh
HOW ABOUT INSTEAD OF "IF YOU KNOW YOU KNOW," YOU JUST TYPE NOTHING. NOT A SINGLE THING. OF ALL THE PHATIC GESTURES, THIS WEIRD LITTLE TAUNT CAN GO KICK ITS OWN TAUTOLOGICAL ASS.
@LRRRonEarth I think it's fine really, you honestly say some kickass true things when you allow yourself to sometimes :) you don't always have to be in PR mode, sometimes it's okay if there are people that don't get it tbh
has someone hacked the pixel audio emoji thing yet to turn it into a full soundboard so we can GET INTO DA CHOPPA and DO IT NAO and I'M DETECTIVE JOHN KIMBLE spam callers
it's basically a little soundboard they put in the default dialer on Pixel phones. While I'm not the kind of person to get salty about things (there's enough salt on this planet tbh, people need to complain less and be less serious and make more playful fun of things instead IMHO, Satire > Salty Ire), I absolutely love thinking about the shitposting implications of this
@mynotaurus if you ever need help, I'm happy to help figure it out, I helped fund the development since early on and would really love to see it grow.
... that said I do not have a VR headset myself and would probably have to ask around why it would act that weird 🤔 I never had issues with booting it, even on Linux through Proton .. though it does deserve to be said that, it has a Linux build on Steam, but last I checked you shouldn't use that one but the Proton version instead ('force compat')
@stefan could be hardware/driver/software bug causing the hotkey to be triggered when the system is starting up somehow. That or someone's successfully executing some proof of concept exploit code on your machine haha.
Anything weird in the Windows Event Viewer?
Also don't know if you have any keyboard software that allows you to 'remap' the calculator hotkey to something else, that may be worth a try to see if it causes different things to open, or perhaps with AutoHotkey, just to exclude it 🤔
few things make me roll my eyes harder than seeing people get upset about things that have existed pain-free for decades, but now because some beancounters tried (and failed) to obsolete some people with 'AI" and because some tech bros used "AI" in this context, now everything ML-related is suddenly bad.
I don't think most people can even explain why they're upset about AI at this point anymore; besides some generic objections to capitalism (which I would agree with), I don't see it tbh🤷
"what about power usage" ALL industrial power usage should be green, datacenters are hardly the biggest offenders in this, if anything they're very low on this list.
"what about crap content" yea what about it? spam's not new lol
"what about artists/creators being obsoleted" points at the capitalism objections and shrugs more there's no competition in art and creation, you could create a very convincing mona lisa effortlessly in 2005 with photoshop and a drawing tablet. Again, not new
@jhwgh1968 I mean sure, I wouldn't mind them using less power either, but datacenters are probably one of the greenest industrial large consumers of power among the industry in general, yet we hear everyone being upset about datacenters (while everyone uses the internet every day) but you don't hear anyone complaining about steel factories or metal forgery in general.
But yea, it's hard to really get nuanced enough on this topic, both in terms of 500 characters and people's attention
I messed up, accidentally broke off the dumpvalve instead of nulling it. It's very null now, and very good at dumping. Tried to fix it with ducttape, but...
