How do normal people in their thirties meet? Other than “they have kids, so they don’t”?

As far as I can tell the only option is “move to a city”.

Like, seriously, there must be opportunities to just… talk to someone.

Today I'm thinking, as I often do, about the time I spoke to a senior colleague right before he was interviewing people for a job (non-tech) with 'digital' in the title.

Being what I am, I asked how many women in the shortlist.

He pulled a theatrical sad-face and said, "None this time. We had some applicants, but unfortunately they just didn't use the techy jargon we were looking for."

I stood with my mouth open, thinking, "Now you've said those words out loud - heard it in your own voice..."

@selzero @drandrewv2 I recently got to work with an expert on the buzz words for, ironically, communication and collaboration trends in tech. Who got put in a position of power.

This was the first time I really felt like I met someone who wouldn’t work with me honestly and openly.

What the hell is going on with this country? How do we vote against a cease fire? How do we arrest people for being homeless? Why do we continually subsidized billion dollar corporations? How do we cry poor mouth and claim we can't help people who need assistance while sending billions and billions for one foreign nation to blow up another country?

Brexit is the WILL OF THE PEOPLE. Never mind the fact that the original numbers were close enough to 50/50 that the difference is statistical noise.

Love-it-or-leave-it don't even have the numbers to back that up. And yet they seem to be the only group that has any sway.

@Mary625 @violetmadder I get why you feel that way.

For me, though, it's been a journey in understanding that the monied can employ legions of people who spend their lives studying brainwashing marketing and lobbying. They legitimately operate on a level that's above the level of people who can only do this in their spare time.

The only thing we can do is get involved in our local communities. That's far from nothing, but it's also far from the kind of global action that's ever so visible.

    @cloudguy Can you flesh out a bit why block is important compared to mute? I'm trying to understand, but currently I just know that a lot of people who seem generally competent think it's a bad idea.

    @cloudguy not especially, although I've hung around on there somewhat, but I do come from the land of the musk-apologists and people of other opinions of that sort. And I'm trying to understand the issue for when it inevitably comes up in conversation.

    @weyoun6 @cloudguy Thank you for your response, that's what I've been getting, and for the record, on a general level I agree.

    However the reason I ask is that when discussing the matter with centrists and apologists who exist in my circles I will need to be able to explain why that is the case.
