"But Bitcoin is a great way to monetize excess renewables"

No, this was never true. If you make a capital investment in a mining rig, then you want that rig making you money 24hrs, not just when the rest of the grid is not consuming renewables.

You become a baseload leech.

Bitcoin must die.

aruiz,

@tecnijota not that easy though, you need an already existing pair of reservoirs, and enough water on the lower one otherwise you have to desalinate water which is energy intensive as well so now you have the same problem as with a bitcoin rig, are you going to use all that new infra only on curtailment periods?

aruiz,

@harkl if you don't care about my opinion why did you waste your time writing this toot?

Who do I annoy at CentOS, to point out that the DVD1 image is larger than an 8GiB USB stick, and I might not have anything bigger at hand?

@aruiz ?

aruiz,

@flameeyes I have... no idea... maybe @sesivany knows?

@Migueldeicaza missed the part where we explain that our modifications are made available first in CentOS Stream (with the exception of CVEs which should be simultaneous)

Seriously people, what's with choosing Red Hat as your punching bag and spreading FUD?

https://mastodon.social/@Migueldeicaza/110626480082763652

aruiz,

@Migueldeicaza I stand by what the screenshot says if you put it in context.

Absolutely nothing in the screenshot is about withholding source changes.

Half the Red Hat staff would be burning virtual dumpsters if we intentionally withheld source changes not just from customers but from the overall public.

aruiz,

@jamesh @Migueldeicaza CentOS Stream is a rolling release, but it is where all our downstream patches land first, if we remove a downstream patch is because it either went upstream or it is not needed anymore.

By the way, you will not trigger anyone by getting a free RHEL subscription and extracting the .patch file from the srpm and redistribute it, most likely you get a pat on the back if you land it upstream.

aruiz,

@Migueldeicaza The changes in RHEL and CentOS Stream? Yes of course they are, this is where RHEL developers land their changes with the exception of CVEs/security fixes which ought to be simultaneous.

Many teams and internal tooling is still being adapted so we may make mistakes here but they are not intentional and we have customers and partner engagements that rely on CentOS getting those exact changes there.

Looks like it's Ad Hominem time!

Red Hat is happy to take your code and distribute it, first with minimal changes, and perhaps with more changes over time.

But if you do it, you are a leech.

Love that the Brodie here goes into gatekeeping what is considered a contribution:

https://www.redhat.com/en/blog/red-hats-commitment-open-source-response-gitcentosorg-changes

aruiz,

As I have been both a Red Hat and a Sun employee during both transitions. I can't state how far from the truth your statement is.

Red Hat is still the same legal entity, with a very similar management chain with the exception of Jim W. not being in the picture and Paul taking a step aside as CEO.

Oracle announced major scrapping on day 0.

aruiz,

@Migueldeicaza is boycottibm.com taken?

aruiz,

@Migueldeicaza I wouldn't support what you claim we're doing though, engineering teams are mandated to push every change upstream and each new RHEL change is here sooner or later:

https://gitlab.com/redhat/centos-stream/rpms

aruiz,

@Migueldeicaza I've quit Canonical, Sun and Amazon in large part because I am physically incapable of withstanding bullshit towards upstreams and/or because I don't like being treated like a fool or pushed to treat others like cattle

gimme some credit here

aruiz,

@Migueldeicaza I am afraid that you are moving the goalpost here, I am okay to going back to exact binaries, but you accused Red Hat of violating the GPL, how is making modifications (copyleft or otherwise) publicly available a violation of the GPL or the commons at large?

aruiz,

@Migueldeicaza honest question, how is this torpedoing the community?

aruiz,

@Migueldeicaza @MWelchUK "You will never know unless you pay"

not true, we give RHEL away for free for individual developers

https://developers.redhat.com/articles/faqs-no-cost-red-hat-enterprise-linux

aruiz,

@doctormo Miguel does not work for Microsoft and I have never seen him compromising his position depending on whose payroll his on.

Neither have I.
