  • "It is a sake cup"
  • "Oh. Can it be used for @tea , also?"
  • "No, this is for sake."
    [awkward silence]
  • [strong disapproving vibe] "… but, I mean, you can do what you want"
  • "I'll take it!"
    [Narrator] one did in fact poured oolong in it at the first opportunity

I “loaned” my DSLR to the kid 3 years ago. She’s damaged lenses, shattered the lcd screen cover, and yelled “I know, I know” every time I tried to give feedback. But she captured this shot of her parents. So I’m thinking we’re even.

@Cmastication I believe DSLR is actually spelled DS;LR and stands for Dings and Scratches; Luminous Rewards

Osmanthus oolong to test the cute @tea tray found at Tsukuba market this morning. I didn't know Paulownia wood but I'm already a big fan (ultralight and waterproof!)

Today's breakfast @tea is long jing, coincidentally matching a surprise chestnut hiding in the middle of the dorayaki (it did look bulgy 😅)

@kolev @tea I fitted the little coiled wire strainer thing you can see to keep the leaves inside – not sure what you mean having them pouring out? For cleaning? Cleaning is a bit messy, but not too bad with big leaves. They don't clog too much to the strainer (and don't enter the spout at all), if that's the concern?

baptnz,
@baptnz@vis.social avatar

@kolev @tea I see! I think it'd likely clog up with big leaves :/ I tend to use a bigger teapot when I do that (but I find that the leaves that end up in the strainer are "wasted" for subsequent brews?)

@kolev @tea From a small random shop in a very rural part of France, so not much of a useful reference I'm afraid 😅 I did see a very similar one in a shop here yesterday but my search of their online shop isn't fruitful (possibly hampered by my nonexistent Japanese – but I feel I will remember how to say teapot now :P)

Travel @tea kit nicely doing its job - for some reason people here keep offering me tea bags though 😅

@kristinHenry I'm hoping I won't carry home too many cameras, or teapots, or tea, or fountain pens, or ... but I have low expectations on my willpower ¯_(ツ)_/¯

So when I was in graduate school in 1993 and you wanted to compile a latex manuscript on an IBM 386 processer, you hit the button and went to get a cup of coffee. Five or ten minutes later, it would be done.

These days it happens in the blink of an eye.

So why is it that in 2023 basically every manuscript submission system in existance takes at least 10 minutes to latex a file?

baptnz,
@baptnz@vis.social avatar

@ct_bergstrom Hopefully Typst will gain adoption, the instant result is definitely more pleasant

natively supports multiformat images (i.e. PDFs for PDF output, PNG for Word/HTML output): https://quarto.org/docs/authoring/figures.html#multiformat-figures

But that can get tricky when captions are more complex, like if they include citations.

But you can use instead!

@andrew There's also options("knitr.graphics.auto_pdf"=TRUE)

What food tradition do you think is the best at taking shitty ingredients and making something really tasty?

baptnz,

@ZachWeinersmith Kopi luwak coffee probably qualifies in a literal sense, but I've not tried it
