Hiya! I’m following a gamedev degree in university. It’s been a major challenge doing it from Linux, as everything is Windows stuff (.sln Visual Studio projects, DirectX API, excel graphs…). However I’ve gotten by by making my own tools and dipping into WINE when it gets too difficult. I’m replacing my laptop due to...
Slightly off-topic here, but have you considered Fedora? For me it just gets the job done and stays out of my way. I don’t want to configure a whole bunch of things before I can get to work so I find fedora simple to use and well-integrated. Docs and forums are quite helpful too.
n00b question, sorry. If I had a desktop that could hold 4 HD and 2 SSD, could I turn it into a NAS? Could someone point me in the right direction if this makes sense?
Maybe I’m dumb but looking at wikipedia I’m a bit confused. Seems like you can do this on almost any linux distro. What is the reason behind setting up a dedicated OS, cost of operation, stability, performance?
I installed Fedora on a external ssd connected to steam deck through a usb hub. Somehow it won’t boot up after an automatic update and reboot. Error says something like “/dev/disk/by-uuid/****” does not exist, and my usb keyboard does not work at all. Turns out I’ve set USB dual role device to DRD and that confuses the...
In the remote desert where China detonated its first atom bomb nearly 60 years ago, a drilling rig recently bored a deep vertical shaft that is estimated to plunge down at least a third of a mile. It is the strongest evidence yet that Beijing is weighing whether to test a new generation of nuclear arms that could increase the...
Original switch screen was rubbish, to put it mildly. While original Steam deck screen is in fact quite decent. It gets bright enough for indoor usage, has large viewing angle, color is ok. I can happily play my original steam deck for another one or two years. I only play on my original switch with it plugged in to a TV.
Not saying this book is 100% correct and perfect, but most parts of it is still relevant and refreshingly insightful even after 20 years. I sure learned a lot about great engineering and generally how to approch and tackle difficult problems from it.
Wow I didn’t know about this, thanks for the reading! I always feel morally in debt for using Wikipedia without giving back much and assume they were struggling a bit to operate, but wow they have received millions of dollars already!
edit: I’m still willing to donate though, and I just did, like I’m happy to pay for what I’ve learned from it, even if it doesn’t mean much to them.

I’ve ended up with a number of machines on my network, and a need to name them all in a somewhat logical way. For several years I had them named after the planets, which worked well until the PCs for myself, my girlfriend, servers and Raspberry Pi’s quickly summed up to more than the eight planets. I’ve broadened it...

Retro Game Corps has just posted a 30 day review of the Ally. As someone who has pre-ordered I found it quite interesting. As expected, the major down side to this device is the battery. Fortunately, my main reason for purchasing this is to do some gaming on my commute to work. As I'm only on the subway for 25 min, this should...
Yeah the weight too, current steam deck weighs about 600g which is okay-ish but I would love to see a lightweight version, something like the ps4->ps4slim upgrade.

Just a quick note, set USB dual role device to XHCI if you're running an OS from external usb device
