Last-min reading for Nebulas? "Discreet Services Offered for Women Ridden by Hags" by Stephanie Malia Morris made Locus's Reading List.

"She had never written to tell us where she had gone or that she was married. What kind of person did this, unless they were ashamed of their kin? But what reason had she to be ashamed? So she was passing light; so our parents had been enslaved before Emancipation. These were not reasons. These were excuses."

@ravenbait @WeightlessBooks If you're interested in getting all BCS issues as ebooks, we give them away free to our Patreon supporters.

(Many of our UK readers do that, if they can't subscribe at @WeightlessBooks . Also, I read somewhere that Weightless's policy had changed very recently? IMO look into that too.)

And thank you for reading and supporting us!

Music & food fortnight at BCS!

"The Wind Shall Blow" by Gregory Norman Bossert, BCS and Podcast BCS 183, read by @AlasdairStuart .

"The ballads took her that way, wherever they would, be they sad or glad. It was that blinding, unearthly intensity in her singing, her ability to sway thoughts and glances, that was the reason the townfolk looked sideways and crossed themselves or made the old warding signs. Part of the reason."

From the Archives:

"The Jewels of Montforte, Pt. I" by Adam Corbin Fusco, BCS

"“Um,” Absinthe said. The perfect opportunity had sailed athwart his bows. All he had to say was “What a beautiful dress you are wearing, my lady,” and the room would burst with his men attacking, overcoming the crowd, and the jewels would be his. Something was holding back the words. She was so beautiful...."

As noted in our Subs Guidelines since March: BCS is not interested in stories w "traditional elements of authorship," as US Copyright Office calls it, done by AI. Spell-check, grammar-check, AI prompts you wrote your own story from are OK, but no story where AI apps wrote or drafted any portion of its text. (We want stories written through author's unique sensibilities & passions. AI mines sensibilities & passions of others, using data that may have biases and infringe on others' copyrights.)
