Das Goldene Zürihorn (Aureum Taurinum Turicense) fühlt sich vor allem im Schilfufer des Zürichsee wohl. Um diesem scheuen Wesen das Rückzugsgebiet zu gewährleisten, wurde am Zürichsee eine Schutzzone, die sogenannte "Goldküste" eingerichtet.

Das Walliser Blütennashorn (Rhinoceros Vallisensis Flosculi) fühlt sich in den Frühlingswiesen der Walliser Alpen besonders wohl. Durch seine einzigartige Färbung wird das Blütennashorn im alpinen Frühling fast unsichtbar.

Entgegen der ursprünglichen Annahme ist das Schweizer Bergnashorn nicht mit den anderen noch existierenden Rhinocerotidae (Nashörnern) verwandt. Sein nächster Anverwandter ist das Murmeltier. Bei Ausgrabungen in den Appenzeller Alpen, wurde vor kurzem der gemeinsame Vorfahr, das Murmelhorn (mus alpinus cornu) entdeckt.
