boredsquirrel,

No shit how? I actually used it because of damn distrowatch, it is solid but damn Debian based. Had to switch because the Nextcloud version was outdated and didnt work with an updated server.

boredsquirrel,

boredsquirrel,

Ist so. Wahrscheinlich sind nur mehr Leute versichert.

Versicherungen sind Scheißvereine.

boredsquirrel,

Ahaaaa! Daher kommt der Anstieg.

boredsquirrel, (edited )

Its also on Flathub. I think it is a WINE wrapper

boredsquirrel,

Impressions after a week using KDE Neon: Amazing

It's been fairly stable as I would expect from an LTS. There's LOT of hiccups with whatever is happening in the tray area (power and battery sometimes doesn't work).

Language is pretty screwed up. I speak both English/Spanish in a Spanish location. Installer chooses half spanish and english in the /etc/locale, and has issues changing it in the frontend.

Overall nothing I can't fix as I put stability overall

@kde

boredsquirrel,

I recommend Fedora Kinoite :D

boredsquirrel,

Yes, you have a new version every half year. That version is supported for 13 months though, so when the release after the next release comes out, you have time to upgrade to the next-old release. If you want a more stable system with more tested packages.

Or you can just upgrade. I already tried Fedora 40 (back then rawhide, as it was not branched) for testing Plasma 6, and it was way better than KDE Neon. It is just so much more stable, Idk why.

I had tons of bugs but those where all plasma bugs which I could report.

It is no issue at all to upgrade, especially on atomic desktops. Like, upgrading Debian 11-12 was scary, upgrading atomic means you end in 1:1 the system they have on their servers (plus your local changes) so they are stable as heck and dont fail. If they fail, you still have your current system.

If you “pin” the current system (sudo ostree admin pin 0) you keep it. So if the upgrade introduces some regressions, you can just choose the older system in GRUB, and you could rpm-ostree rollback to stay there.

boredsquirrel,

You can already try GIMP beta, only as appimage poorly (or ubuntu ppa, works through distrobox) and report bugs.

It is pretty good, needs better defaults and it is crazy how GTK3 was the one where stuff started to get HUGE.

So you see buttons etc are bigger, not fitting the menus anymore. But it works, and it finally has color profiles and nondestructive filters, which are a base requirement for graphics design.

boredsquirrel,

Same

boredsquirrel,

Very good and detailed review, I recommend watching!

boredsquirrel,

Yes, Flathub is important but there are many other repos. Nothing for non development though.

I maintain a hopefully complete list here

boredsquirrel,

For sure. But it works. This is the point.

I am a total redoxOS fanboy but I have not even got that thing to launch in a FOSS VM.

boredsquirrel,

There is a close button, thats it.

You wont believe me but minimize is not a thing as there is no panel or dock. You open stuff, move it somewhere else and you will never use a dock as a container, just as a quicklauncher.

I think that is fair, but it for sure forces many people to adapt their workflows.

Are there any discrepancies between the resources an OS uses when running in a virtual machine vs being ran directly?

I recently found out about a Linux Distro named Q4OS and I wanted to test out their claim that it only requires 256 MB of ram when using the trinity desktop environment. However, when I used the live cd in virt-manager with 256 MB or ram, it just kernel panicked at boot. So I then tried it with 512 MB of ram. In addition to some...

boredsquirrel,

Yes certainly reinstalling and software availability are a thing.

You can check packages.fedoraproject.org and copr.fedorainfracloud.org for packages. COPR is like the AUR.

Interesting thanks for the link. Strangely it doesnt work when I am german, but searching for it I get the same one.

I recommend the Episode “Super PCMan” by Linux User Space. It is pretty interesting, and LXQt has a smaller footprint and runs on the latest framework.

I see that they kind of some time plan the GTK4 ports, but LXQt is already on the latest Qt. I dont know how well supported GTK3 is really, but I guess it is okay?

boredsquirrel,

No. That may be for you, but having the choice to be restricted by free software, fully transparently??

I dont get your point. You literally recommend companies to rely on apple or micro$ and to keep Linux incapable of such systems.

Would you have employees have root access, and write access to all other departments files too? This is just the base foundation of how stuff works.

boredsquirrel,

I think we can agree here. But have Win11 with Teams, or Linux? I take Linux.

boredsquirrel,

Yes eza is the new fork. I like the nerdfonts combo
