Anybody else noticing that @dotnet 6 does not output Unicode correctly when run from Windows Terminal?

First image = Standard console host
Second image = Windows Terminal

Tried turning AtlasEngine on and off, no impact. Using Windows Terminal version 1.17.11461.0. This feels recent-ish, not sure if it's .NET or Terminal.

@fornever In both cases it's 437 (and FWIW, using CHCP to set a code page is not respected by Windows Terminal).

Setting Console.OutputEncoding does indeed work. Thanks!

@bradwilson@mastodon.social avatar

@mlibby @dotnet I'd be curious to know what the change was, and why it was made.

Based on https://dotnet.social/@fornever/110510737252387609 there is a simple workaround for me for now.

bradwilson,
@bradwilson@mastodon.social avatar

@dotnet Thanks to @fornever for pointing out that the fix is pretty simple on my side: make sure the OutputEncoding is set to UTF-8.

https://github.com/xunit/xunit/commit/51bf43410e17b6751776e4486b28083f32c7db55

Thanks to @mlibby who points out that the bug appears to have materialized somewhere between Windows Terminal 1.16 and 1.17. That makes me feel better about my recollection of recency. 😁

Yesterday at work someone told me I’m the studio’s living, breathing, this is fine dog.

I have been thinking about it constantly. I’m both proud and extremely upset

I know Mastodon has "made it" because my timeline is currently jam packed with Apple fans with frequent & immediate context-free one liners. "THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS?!" is either a great price for a new Mac Pro or a terrible price for an AR headset. I guess I'll find out in a few hours. 😂

@erraggy Yes, although he was in the mix. 😁

My brain is apparently incapable of learning that my phone screen will turn itself on when I remove it from its wireless charging cradle, and insist on hitting the power button to turn on the screen, which of course turns off the screen which just turned itself on.

Every. Damn. Time.

I'm grudgingly accepting defeat as of today.

Just beat Horizon: Zero Dawn

Really enjoyed the game, good story, good combat mechanics, and a good soundtrack.

Trying to decide what my next game will be, might jump right into Horizon: Forbidden West

@kpwags I assume you've already played Witcher 3?

The birbsite had an excellent “Internet of Shit” account, does such a thing exist here? Also looking for an “AI of Shit” account because that really must exist at this point

xunit, to random

We just shipped new prerelease versions of the core framework, the Visual Studio adapter, and analyzers.

Most notable: This removes support for UWP from xunit.runner.visualstudio as that has been deprecated by Microsoft (and us now, too). Minimum framework for xunit.runner.visualstudio is now net462+ and net6.0+.

This is getting close to final for 2.5.0 so please test!

Release notes:

https://xunit.net/releases/2.5.0-pre.22
https://xunit.net/releases/analyzers/1.2.0-pre.9
https://xunit.net/releases/visualstudio/2.5.0-pre.15

bradwilson,
@bradwilson@mastodon.social avatar

@xunit I said it last time, I'll say it again in case you missed it. 😁 Now is the time to get features/bugs fixed (for all of the core framework, analyzers, and Visual Studio adapter). It's not clear if/when there will be another 2.x code base release.

@jchannon @xunit Work on 3.x continues.

Got the new code signing up and running for @xunit (got one project done, just need to finish the rest today). That means I will probably push out another 2.5.0 prerelease build this weekend (and this will include both the core framework and xunit.runner.visualstudio).

Today I learned that the internet slang "simp" probably comes from the word "simper"

I was watching The Spanish Princess and Henry VIII says, "If we centralized the military, my father wouldn't have to beg and simper to you all like a serving maid."

🤯

bradwilson,
@bradwilson@mastodon.social avatar

@LilahTovMoon @scottgal Most of the usage I've seen isn't necessarily meant to be demeaning, but there definitely feels like there's a bit of pity in it.
