I was taught about decision tables in electronics class many years ago as a way of simplifying discrete logic circuits. They are also useful in software so just pointed one of our grads at this nice explanation by Hillel Wayne:

News: “Storms are increasing in frequency and intensity, tornadoes are striking in areas not normally hit, people are dying.”
People: Climate change isn’t real.

People: “Jeez, everyone just seems sick all the time. My kids have been coughing since last year, I have this weird tingling in my hands for some reason, and I can’t remember shit.”
Same people: “Covid is just a cold. I’ve had it four times with no ill effects whatsoever.”

People suck

The author’s direct observations at USC, backed up by national study: “With few exceptions, the encampments have been overwhelmingly peaceful, well-organized microsocieties.” “The image of a lawless, violent, antisemitic pro-Palestinian mob stands completely at odds with the reality.”

But people •were• violence at USC. Who?

inthehands,
@inthehands@hachyderm.io avatar

Just in case it’s not obvious: there is another way. And it’s the obvious one.

There was no violence at the college where I teach. There was a multi-day occupation of a campus building in support of Palestine and in support of peace — but no police, no violence. Why?

Because the administration actually •talked• to the protestors, while publicly defending their first amendment rights. They worked together on a specific plan of action, and the occupation ended. That’s it. The one weird trick.

When Trump openly and repeatedly exclaims that migrants are “poisoning the blood of our country,” or shares a video calling for a “unified Reich,” he is literally echoing the language of Hitler.

Trump is not a “populist.” He’s not a “strongman.” He is a fascist.

Use the word.

a new article on 9to5Mac comparing the iPad Pro with the upcoming Surface Pro. unfortunately it also conveniently ignores the fact that one is effectively running a super limited phone OS while the other a fully flexible desktop OS.

I hope that this will finally force Apple to allow iPad Pros to run macOS (even virtualized) as all that awesome power is just getting wasted.

Though not serving as Trump’s attorney when he appeared as a witness today in Trump’s trial for criminally falsifying business records, Robert Costello is a lawyer, bound by New York’s Rules of Professional Conduct. Costello repeatedly showed his ethical unfitness, violating the most basic principles that inform the entire code. I’ve screenshot the very first paragraph of the entire code, highlighting the most pertinent phrases. 1/

The lead:

“Seafood restaurant chain Red Lobster filed for bankruptcy, succumbing to onerous leases, high labor costs and a disastrous unlimited shrimp promotion.”

So the shrimp promotion is the third in the lead, but first in the social post?

Also: the “onerous leases” were caused by the hedge fund that bought the company in order to make the reataurant lease its own property back. Maybe that should be the headline and socials?

Someone asked about supporting async data sources (for example, a data method which returns Task<IEnumerable<object[]>> because it needs access to async infrastructure).

While this isn't directly supported in v2 (it is in v3), we were able to put together a sample that shows how it can be done in the existing v2 architecture. If you want to do this it would only involve lifting two classes from the sample.

Code: https://github.com/xunit/samples.xunit/tree/main/AsyncDataExample

> Making sure your electricity comes from wind, solar or nuclear power is a logical first step. Google itself, for example, says it has been running entirely on green electricity since 2015.

Story misses a crucial point:

👉 The goal isn't just to add green power. The goal is to emit less CO2!

New green capacity needs to replace old dirty stuff. Not be gobbled up by new data centers for AI.

If you got upset at me for pointing out that more people died of Covid under Biden than Trump, in large part because Biden rolled back common sense restrictions that were in place under Trump...

Then you'll hate me pointing out that Trump introduced a 25% tariff on Chinese EVs, and Biden is upping that to 100% tariff.

The US hasn't even tried to make an ultra affordable EV. Not even an attempt!

Instead, we make Cybertrucks that no one wants, and then work the refs to kneecap better, smarter companies, to try and prevent anyone else from being successful at doing it.

Every day, I hear people prattle on about how the US Venture Capital industry is so innovative and forward-looking. Yet of all the billions spent (wasted), none of them were smart enough to fund a company making ultra low cost EVs.
