Some concerns… Providing housing is a position of power, and inviting a relative stranger into your home requires trust. While I firmly believe that most folks are well-intentioned, the possibility of abuse is there.
Ultimately, bear is the less complicated decision, not entirely because it is without danger, but because it is not subject to gaslighting. Most people understand that a bear attack is bad and won’t raise concerns about how you led the bear on or that what you were wearing was to blame.
And most importantly, it dodges any corporate liability, the company providing the ammo can say it wasn’t used as directed, and police can fall back on qualified immunity, and provide a vague statement about additional training.
I used to have to explain it to them too, but could usually get them to understand by referencing the CVE and the breakdown from the MS security updates guide.
Part of my job used to involve explaining patch supersedence to leadership so that they had a clear idea of why a totally different patch needs to be loaded to address a vulnerability reporting a different patch number in the scanner.
