Is it possible to have all posts public within an instance, but you have to login to be able to see them? I.e., Private Mode requires you follow someone....idea is that any member of the instance can see all posts, and those that are not would need to login/authenticate somehow....

Do you host any Fediverse instances for family (Mastodon, etc)? Curious if you get your family to use it and what headaches when linking to other instances....
Curious how big the gap was with the API costs.
I don't want right-wing fanatics...I don't want leftist fanatics...I want a place where all views can be discussed with respect and civility. /r/politics was NOT that place. I hope Lemmy can avoid the echo chamber to allow respectful disagreement and discourse to occur (while not overly defending extremists on either side)....
