Similarly, who can explain why journalism theory does not include that it it all has to appeal to the customer, who are the advertisers: https://beige.party/@bdiss/112450971333321598

We live in a benighted culture based on a pile of bogus theories.

Topping them all BTW is "quantum physics".

(I refer to the cult metatheory of it, not the formulas, which happen to be correct, because they were discovered empirically. If you ask me, "Then how do you explain...?" then you are a victim of the cult.)

But back to journalism. If journalism "critics" from within the field were more honest, they would include the need of journals to please their customers as the foremost consideration, and then all would make since and there would be nothing to complain about.

They could simply make the recommendation that you not purchase the New York Times unless what you expect is appeal to Bergdorf-Goodman and that MSNBC has much lower standards than that.

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

Probably fewer newspapers would be failing if journalists had been taught proper theory, too. If they knew what their primary role in society was was to appeal to customers, and that conveying news was a means.

If what they wished to do was to convey news, rather than appeal to customers, they'd invent or go into a different, but related field. They might become Cassandras, for instance. I am a Cassandra, perhaps.

I decided to finish my small black ash cutting board with tung oil. It has gotten two doses so far. I think it's actually enough, but will give more doses.

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

It's that black ash has an open grain, and so I wanted a fairly solid and smooth finish.

I can see my feed is going to be filled with both the suggestion that Israelis can be forgiven for ELECTING Netanyahu, because they PROTESTED it, ana also with the implication that Ashkenazi Jews are NOT ethnic Israelites.

Presumably sometime today I will see Jesus referred to as "a Jewish Palestinian", rather than as "a Jew", which is how HISTORIANS mean it. The latter "Jewishness" means a relative of Ashkenazi and other bloodline Jews, not a random person with a particular religion.

@deirdresm Bibi, after all, hardly follows Judaism. It is no secret he does not follow Judaism. But he cannot possibly avoid being a Jew, however much he might actually desire it. He is a carbuncle on the ass of Jewry.

He is the sort who try to convince the Gentiles (and keep in mind I am 1/4 Gentile, so no hating on the Goyim shall be tolerated) that he is like them and NOT like all the Shylocks out there (such as the caricatures Yair Netanyahu was caught peddling).

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

@deirdresm I can tell you from my own family background, a bunch of working Jews are no better than a bunch of working anybodies. Bigots and idiots like the rest. "Seinfeld" is reality. It is prejudice that Jews might somehow be superhuman and surpass that.

But this should be obvious. My Grandma was from East New York, where the next generation of kids after her were recruited to be part of Murder Inc. Jews were gangsters like everyone, because JEWS ARE PEOPLE.

This last is what few accept.

Israel seems to have trouble making this ouster an election reality rather than a protest march.

Trump is, not merely indicted for what could put him in prison, he is on trial for what could land him up to four years probation.

https://botsin.space/@istrumpinprisonyet/112422578149782472

Now keep in mind that NEITHER probation NOR prison stops the Republicans from nominating him and electing him president! So none of that matters. You simply must win the election.

Is this rocket science? Do I have to both learn and explain celestial navigation to make my point?

(Of course the main reason Canada doesn't have these problems to similar degree is it is much "Whiter" and doesn't border Mexico. So keep that in mind if you are planning a migration.)

chemoelectric, to random
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

The usual sentence for Trump's crime in New York is 1 and 1/3 to 4 years probation.

Imagine Donald Trump on probation. You know what can happen if a felon violates probation. And the Secret Service will be right there to turn him over to New York State Police.

OTOH maybe all he would have to do is avoid committing obvious crimes in public.

I would like to give an example of how Logical Fate (or Logical Destiny) works.

Suppose we accept the premise—nowadays widely held without evidence—that Jesus was "a non-white Jewish Palestinian".

Then, by deduction:

  1. Jesus and Ashkenazi Jews (who are "white") are not closely related.

  2. Judaism was his religion but not his ethnicity, which was "Palestinian".

  3. As these things are true because Jesus is selected from the crowd, they are true of Galileans and Judeans generally.

A new epoxy clock face just poured, with Hyacinth on the computer. (This is essentially an electronics workbench but serves multiple purposes.)

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

Yesterday I molded a clock face but I do not like it. It is pearly moss green swirl, with gold flakes, and a fluorescent background.

This one will be sparkly white pearl with multicolored specks, predominantly black.

Maybe I will cut wood for the tics. Or else fill the indentations with epoxy or plaster.

More obvious fact ignored by many people who could be intelligent but who are instead stupid, because they follow the broken methods of current intellectual society—

The human brain should not be presumed similar to a digital computer, because there is no evidence the nervous system is a digital mechanism.

Neurons transmit neither parallel nor serial digital signals. They seem often to transmit something very distantly akin to the analog signals of FM radio.

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

That the brain WOULD be a digital mechanism is, on reflection, preposterous. How would evolution come up with such a thing, rather than analog mechanisms? For even digital computers are made from analog parts!

It is the way of Nature to be "analog". "Digital" is a product of human abstraction.

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

The difference, from Nature's viewpoint, between analog and digital circuitry is what "mode" the transistors are operated in. In digital circuitry they are in "pulse" mode. But they can be in pulse mode in analog circuitry, too.

A lot of neurons seem to operate in pulse mode, but in this FM radio like way. This may be misleading some people.

But I think it is mostly the current intellectual structure, which rewards people for blathering fact-ignoring nonsense.

I'm using up my SigWong epoxy. Yieho is likely to be my new "general fun and games" epoxy. But SigWong is easy to use well for this kind of mold once you figure out how to do it.

@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

People who would have been intelligent in a more well structured society, but are very stupid in this one, will pointedly ignore the most obvious necessities.

I am thinking of this notion that Large Language Models can provide insight into human intelligence. This notion ignores the obvious necessity that human intelligence is based on that of animals, who have no language whatsoever. Language appears only late, as a crucial facility allowing the ACCUMULATION OF KNOWLEDGE.

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

The advocates will present you with an example of the "pattern matching"-quality results, but encased in elegant English that the LLM generated.

Imagine the results simply printed in a listing, because that is what is the actual "intelligence" of the thing. Creating elegant English with a computer is something I could do decades ago on a PC. It is easy.

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

There is simply no getting around obvious facts, and it is plain obvious that human intelligence must resemble cat intelligence, and so CANNOT be modeled by language.

Rather, language must be modeled upon the basis of the true foundation.▫️
