@yon does this mean your iMac made the cut for one more year?

@yon im still on venture on my 2021 mac book pro just to use ivory. Only the studio gets the latest since it's the machine I do my dev stuff on.

But it could be worse, like windows 11 and it's spyware

yon,
@yon@sakurajima.moe avatar

@chikorita157 Windows is long dead to me, I can’t come up with a single reason for me to run that only anything I own.

But that said, I think an OS should be measured against its potential not its competitors. And MacOS could be so so so much better in so many ways.

Clear out the bugs, modernize, fix issues, finish the half finished stuff, fix performance issues, fix the things devs find are missing, make Xcode the best ever, etc.

@yon @chikorita157
The current best hydrogen generation processes is only 40-60% energy efficient, which is a lot worse than battery loss, and it depends on how clean a plant's electricity source is.

Each person or small group of people having their own private moving box is still much less efficient than sharing a huge box :ablobcatreachflip: Public transport is better when enough people take it.

yon,
@yon@sakurajima.moe avatar

@anianimalsmoe @chikorita157 That and one practical problem is that charging stations are being built out and there is a network in many places. If I got a hydrogen car I would have 0 places to charge it.

Fuel cells are cool (says everyone except the people on the Apollo 13 mission) and all. But there doesn’t seem to be any appetite for it.

I’m all for public transport, but I have got to say that it’s a much more difficult nut to crack over here. So little is built around it (with the exceptions of a few cities).

For example the light rail in the twin cities. Close to useless unless you live in very specific places, and created a big mess as it was really just an excuse to rewrite laws so development companies could build on parking lots.

Less parking lots less cars right? Just that the light rail just sucks too much to be a replacement:/

Which is why I think, in the case of the U.S., trains between cities would be a better start. Especially transports.

(Also boats! Outlaw cruise ships and tax transportation in big ships. Automate manufacturing and manufacture closer to the consumer. Those ships are dirty.)

(Caveat Emptor: These are just opinions, anyone who properly runs the numbers should be in charge.)

Oof, the SSD speeds are slower on the PowerCenter compared to my G4 MDD or even the G3 B&W. Might be because I'm running a Rage 128 on the same PCI Bus or maybe it's because of the slower processor and bus speeds.

Faster than any SCSI emulator though.

yon,
@yon@sakurajima.moe avatar

@chikorita157 I like how SSDs are quiet, that makes it worth it for me :)

If the accelerator card has memory on it, it probably can ran the memory at a higher speed which equals speed etc. No idea if that’s the case :)

chikorita157,
@chikorita157@sakurajima.moe avatar

@yon The accelerator cards usually have backside L2 cache, which speeds things up drastically. I am using a 604 without a cache since it’s missing and it doesn’t perform well in certain instances.

Not only that, the 68K emulator kind of depends on that cache, so without it, performance is impacted.

Time to update this now...

Here is some trivia about Sakurajima.

There is a good number of things named after it, besides our servers, which includes:

  • The Volcano
  • A former neighborhood in Kagojima
  • A rail line in Osaka and a station
  • A character named Mai Sakurajima from Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai
  • A type of Japanese Radish (Sakurajima daikon radish)
  • A type of Japanese Orange (Sakurajima komikan orange)
  • A ferry that goes between Kagoshima Port and Sakurajima Port
  • A novella.
  • An island in Palworld of the same name

The more you know.

Installing the remaining stuff on the Mac Clone before I publish my first post on it. I still have more work to do on it when I get another G3 accelerator which actually says its working, to make it usable.

The 9600 will probably come when I come back, but I won’t do too much to it yet as I need to get the ATX PSU kit, a BlueSCSI, another GPU, and another SATA adapter, but that won’t be the focus until the future. I need to check how much RAM it actually came with and if it’s fully populated, take some (hopefully there are some 128MB modules) and put it into the clone as this is the focus, for now. May come back to the 9600 in August/September.

Yep, it seems the studio that got caught of having scenes made from animators in North Korea was actually a thing done by a subcontractor. I wonder, how did this happen :bunhdthink:

https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2024-06-07/dahlia-in-bloom-anime-to-redo-scenes-suspected-to-be-animated-in-n-korea/.211656

chikorita157,
@chikorita157@sakurajima.moe avatar

@yon I wouldn't be surprised given that Chinese studios, which I believe were outsourcing their work under the table to a North Korean studio... which is apparently not allowed.

yon,
@yon@sakurajima.moe avatar

@chikorita157 If there’s one universal thing is business it’s that driven sociopaths want all the money and any mean is justified for that end.

If I’ve understood it the connection to North Korea, for every single country in that region, is quite strange. China would much rather NK go away and nobody quite wants anything to do with them. I’d be very surprised if the majority of SK would not want to avoid a unification at almost any cost.

So I assume any work being done in NK is highly regulated. And I bet this wasn’t.

I feel sorry for most people in the entertainment industry. They are so passionate and want to entertain the rest of us. But so many of them work in such shitty conditions:(

In the end, Microsoft backtrack on the controversial Recall feature, but I still won't trust it.

Good thing I don't use Windows 11 as a main OS, but a Mac. Haven't used Windows full time since December 2006.

@chikorita157 Most of the original glorious Gainax people formed Studio Trigger long ago anyway, so Gainax was already a zombie for a long long time.

@anianimalsmoe @chikorita157 Trigger has made some good stuff. I could do with a second season of BNA for sure.
