chockblock,

Is it based on ActivityPub? I don’t really know much about it other than Jack Dorsey is involved.

chockblock,

Yes I did read the article. I’m not saying that she shouldn’t have replaced her vehicle, in fact she probably did make the smartest choice by going for a second hand EV. I’m just frustrated by the people that assume an electric vehicle is somehow “good” for the environment when it is not.

She refers to her car in the following ways:

  • “a car that [does] not emit pollution”
  • “Zero emission gave me peace of mind that I made the right choice for a world facing climate change”
  • “earth-friendly”

Also this statement shows she is concerned about the environment:

“suddenly remembered my intention for buying an EV in the first place. I should have spoken up. Greenhouse gas emissions, carbon dioxide, climate crisis … These words jumbled in my head. Nobody had even mentioned this life-or-death issue we all are facing.”

But EVs are not some sort of silver bullet for the climate crisis. Do we yet have any studies confirming that they are better for the environment over ICE vehicles when considering lithium mining, vehicle production, battery replacement, tire pollution etc?

I hope that the EV revolution is a net positive solution over ICE vehicles, but they are not some sort of magical product that is going to save the planet.

chockblock,

I’m all for incremental improvements but these people that laud themselves as environmental heros for owning an electric car need to understand what happens behind the curtain before they receive their electric car, and after the battery is replaced.

Is there any comprehensive proof that EV production is cleaner than ICE production?

chockblock,

Nice, I’ll check it out. Thanks

chockblock,

Darn, will the trunk grow any taller or is that it?

chockblock,

I’ve been using AntennaPod and it is no frills and works flawlessly.

chockblock,

I’ll be interested to see an open source version of this!

chockblock,

I’ve had a lot of luck with banking apps on GrapheneOS. Worth a try if you haven’t already.

chockblock,

This does seem crazy. I thought maybe they transfer over all the person’s data, but no it says in their FAQ that you lose all your data in the process.

chockblock,

I remember reading that GOS eventually wants to develop their own hardware, although I’m sure that is many years away.

chockblock,

Using LibreElec, were you able to get any streaming services running like Netflix or YouTube?

I would like a UI I could use with a remote but the wife still needs Netflix so Kodi wouldn’t cut it.

chockblock,

This looks really intriguing. Have you installed it on a raspberry pi? I’m having some difficulties and wondering if there are other packages I need to install first.

chockblock,

Then stand up your own server and govern it as you please.

chockblock,

You can download the APK from their website and it auto updates itself. It fetches notifications without Google required.

chockblock,

What’s the point then? Is it fdroid specifically?

Cloud services for controlling things inside your house are the worst (github.com)

I recently moved away from MyQ to local control of my garage door and I’ve been loving it. I stumbled across the linked issue where MyQ shit the bed for roughly 3 days and it just confirms to me that the extra effort to move away from a cloud service was worth it. I’m down to just one last cloud service for something inside...

chockblock,

Unfortunately my furnace (Rheem) only works this way which is so disappointing. I wish it could be cracked so that it could work independently with home assistant.

chockblock,

It does require some configuration within yubikey manager. I did not find it straightforward but once set up its really reliable.

chockblock,

I like the look of KeePassDX but I was bothered by the fact that I have to use the yubikey every single time to unlock the database, unlike keepass2android which allows me to store the yubikey credential with biometric lock until the phone restarts. Keepass2android is not as nice of an app but that feature was really required for me.

chockblock,

its not a huge issue on KeePassXC because I keep a yubikey nano plugged into my laptop, but for my phone, I haven’t been able to make this work reliably with KeePassDX. I’ll have to give it another go.

chockblock,

Ok great, coming from Reddit, I was unaware I could edit the post title. thanks
