Karl fuckhead Rove was a HUGE homophobe y'all. He was one of the biggest "masterminds" behind same sex marriage BANS being passed in over 30 fucking states in in the early 2000s..

This…pig... knew EXACTLY what the fuck he was doing 20 years ago. He used hate and lies his whole career - he designed -this- fucking dystopia.

And now I see some attempts to try to rehab this pig?

IDGAF if he's "Anti MAGA" -now. So are literally hundreds of million other people. Amplify them.

How do most people learn about power?

What do they learn?

Who do people think of when they think about people who study power? (interested in names, not whether you agree with them)

I learned informally about power via those "top of the food chain" posters from late grade school or middle school, you know the ones with a man at the top of a pyramid?

In college, Foucault was the only person I recall being specifically -called- a "power theorist"

This performative outrage about Cannon is getting pretty old. Of course she is in the can for Trump, of course she is doing everything she can to delay and skew the case. This was the worry way back -months- ago when she "happened" to draw the case.

The DOJ could have should have and would have gone plenty of other routes if they were after justice. Starting with his criming back in maybe the 90s???

Ok: how is it helpful to keep pointing out how bad Trump is? OF COURSE he is! But it seems like most people already either know this, or are complicit with/brainwashed by his kind of corruption….

Interesting that some people w/ large audiences never explore: WHY he's gotten away with his -criminal level- bs for decades -no delving into previous failings in law enforcement, the justice system(s) or media realms

or discuss much about the many heavily pushed norms that enable authoritarianism

No, I do not think it outlandish that at Bohemian Grove (and/or related) -some- folks had convos like this:

"Geeeez, this <insert any healthier way of life> movement is a threat us. How can we stop it?" and then spent considerable time and effort developing -numerous- ways to thwart collective engagement in forward thinking, truly democratizing endeavors.

I mean after all, US "intelligence" certainly did this in far off smaller countries. And at home by destroying social justice movements.

after 9/11 those who found Bush's "retaliation" actions worth protesting were really pretty successfully painted as traitorous know nothings, endangering the world… people lost jobs over opposition to war then, too, ya know

Might be worth thinking about if you're beginning to fall for the idea that any criticism of a guy 9 months away from a selection is traitorous or too dangerous.

Edited for typos that auto wrong keeps making-😂 🙄

I deleted Twitter months ago, so researching this myself isn't happening.

But can anyone name accounts who were actively sounding the alarm about Jan 6 AHEAD of time? @_L1vY_ it seems like you were one of them who was saying "Might wanna listen to these folks"?

The only really -big- account I can remember is Sarah Kendzior, who isn't here. It seemed the folks who were sounding the alarm generally did not have huge accounts, but like in the less than 5-10k realm.

Just curious

An example of an authoritarian form of "power over" is the incredibly regressive abortion ban based on 1864 law.

It "proves" those in power have power OVER others.

Many institutional paths to power still allow absolutely unfit, stunted, and depraved people ways to rule OVER people.

Collectively having more knowledge about the many forms of power ..is important.

But before you listen to social scientists promoted by corporately owned media, consider WHY they might promote the person. 1/2

might be worth it to reevaluate who you follow for "good analysis" if your list of people has included folks who have repeatedly told you the justice system is working just fine

Same goes for those defending the FBI, (and for that matter, the the entire "intelligence" community)... who were apparently unable to see any criminality or any security threat in Trump in 2015- when millions of normal people did see it.

Seriously- look behind the curtain at some of these larger accounts.

Thinking about what are called "affiliative needs" and how much they influence people to conform to common social norms.

Having positive social interactions with others is important to virtually all people…but in widely varying degrees.

Those with high affiliative needs -may- be more compliant in going along with arbitrary policies.

So its qualities have been studied and exploited in some areas.

There's even a "affiliative leadership style" aspiring managers can learn to mimic.

I can see how some liberals might not want to call these sociopathic, greed based obstructionists "fascists"

but really what -do- you call a small group of people who

  • are - FORCING their will onto others…

These plutocrats -are- exercising "extreme authoritarian and dictatorial control".

AND by shutting down free speech they are "forcefully suppressing opposition" in corporately owned media.

Imagine some individuals in a species staying so stunted they "tHinK' that being able to use violence to "win" will somehow make for a better or more peaceful world.

And they expect all of the species share this world view.

Further imagine that this myth (violence leads to peace) persists largely because these individuals only listen to other (depraved) folks like them "as experts".

Short term benefits convince them they are right!!

Like the short term benefits of crack cocaine.

person gives response to user about concerns of a huge and demonstrably amoral corp monetizing off mastodon and possibly contributing bots trolls…(at the least) and killing it off (at the hypothetical worst)

That person's response is: I think Mastodon should be able to withstand this.

Now imagine you live in a nice quiet neighborhood and a developer wants to come in and put a commercial district right next door.

So the folks already living there should just "be able to withstand this"?

real argument right now:

...problems in society today predate capitalism by thousands of years. Capitalism didn't create greed.

real answer:
emotionally stunted folks allowed greed to motivate them.

And cultures…that are not very emotionally developed …allowed those folks rise to power.

It's is the lack of emotional development in people -that is ACTIVELY discouraged by patriarchy and militaries everywhere that is closer to the root problem, IMO.

how do you think that will go over?

Can anyone else think of other times when certain folks were incredibly eager to paint people standing up for peace and equity as…unruly violent mobs of unhinged rioters?

Just every single previous time ever.

The real unhinged folks are not above infiltrating protests to make movements look bad- early George Floyd protest: one lone white guy smashing windows- turned out to be…a white supremacist-

remember this when you see breathless news reports about violent/ bigoted …peace mongers.

Folks at UC San Diego were able to access over 1 million records to try to "find genetic components" of PTSD.

We learn this "could" "eventually" help in treatment of the 250 million folks affected by it.

You know what would be exponentially better, where sane decision makers would focus most? PREVENTION !!

But that would involve -adjusting social structures so make it much harder for people behave abusively* towards others- which is -by far- the leading cause of the disorder.

1/2 or 3

The sign is a little messy, but more people NEED to keep tapping it:

THE aim of authoritarian power is to get, expand -and keep- power consolidated among "the in group".

Authoritarian assumptions are rooted in force, not reason.

And -using coercive means- (aka: force, unjust laws (ahem), by sick cultural norms, etc) are the accepted means.

Unfortunately, it's been hugely successful for ALL colonizing cultures…so it's still pervasive

but often only really shows its teeth when threatened

US centered:

the histories of virtually all social justice movements are incomplete unless the histories of covert and overt interference by "intelligence" communities, local law enforcement and government officials are included.

Obviously there have been government officials standing with social justice movements, and times when law enforcement collectively behaved professionally.

But I have NEVER heard of any covert -support- by "intelligence" groups.

I seriously have hardly ever seen -any- posts/replies telling people to "not bother" with voting.

But I often see larger liberal accounts blasting supposed lefties/progressives with "So many lefties telling people not to vote!!!" (and then in THOSE threads I'll maybe see a troll or two replying with saying "yeah, why bother??")

So my question is: have the trolls figured out how to just target the liberals? Or are the liberals more taking pot shots at the lefties? I really can't tell. Or both?

take a planetary paradise and

  1. Socialize a group to believe that to be "superior" in the world they need to amass as many little pieces of paper as possible.

  2. get them to believe that emotional sensitivity is "not important", that logic (and violence applied as necessary) will work fine, instead.

Watch them invade and oppress and create social hierarchies based on physical size and ability to overpower others

In a few generations, a few true believers WILL crash the entire planet.

a popular news aggregator active on this site (ahem) is lamenting how many chain restaurants there are and urging people to follow their foodie accounts for metro areas

…using Eater, which is mostly owned by Vox. (Vox is owned by Comcast)

They also urge us to get "local news" from their accounts for local metro areas… great, will they use local papers, and columnists????

Nah…get local news through…axios... which is mostly owned by Cox Enterprises, a multi $bn company

no hypocrisy here!

Most people who aspire to being "rugged individuals" have been told in tons of ways that it is not cool to be vulnerable. Ever. In any way.

Unfortunately avoidance of vulnerability ALSO keeps tons of people in really stunted levels of emotional awareness.

Why? Because allowing a little bit of vulnerability is necessary for us to truly experience all kinds of good emotions: compassion, trust, love, generosity, etc.
