Hey people,

How bad an idea is it to run exim as root?

I understand that's the default practice, but, as discussed in the exim docs security chapter, cPanel has elected to default exim to run as a special user created for the purpose (with an associated special group), and, as also discussed in that chapter, doing so cripples a bunch of stuff such as .forwards.

I suspect a lot of the permissions problems I'm running into are because of this.

How wrong would it be to run it as root?

@siderea anything that accept attacker-controlled input from the network is a bad idea to run as root. Exim has also had a bad run over the last few years with security vulns, so if you do need Exim I would def not run as root. Sorry, this isn't the easy answer you were probably hoping for!

I've bloody well done it again! YUS! One year, every evening at 4pm (winter) 5pm (summer). A 20 second exposure through a pinhole camera, on a glass plate. I've captured the Analemma again!

    Anyone got any tool recommendations for macOS for doing that thing where you have a bunch of text for a live demo that you need to copy and paste in order, so you can tee up your pasteboard nicely for pasting in during your live demo?

    @parisba it would require some limited scripting, but the command line tool pbcopy might help
