You know, two weeks ago I said to myself "okay, I really need to learn this Nix thing", but I ended up getting busy with work and I didn’t have much time to try it out in practice.

Sad to see that the entire ecosystem is collapsing now. Why does this always happen for any technology I try to learn?

@notgull you taking requests?

silver lining: it was awfully thoughtful of all these boston college administrations to draw the attention of a group of young, energetic, politically active students to last year's "tent ordinance" that cruelly targets the unhoused and is now being used to crack down on speech

Rabbit's R1 sounds like a major security disaster waiting to happen

“There's no artificial intelligence or large action model in sight”

"What's even more alarming is that they ask you to login through their web portal, which is just a virtual machine connected via NoVNC. They also expect you to fill in your private passwords on their VMs. To make matters worse, they store the user sessions on their machines without any additional layers of security.”

For a while now I've been thinking about where microblogging/blogging fits in my life.

After various experiments over the years, I settled on going back to writing my website in a text editor, without regard for consistency or categories.

But inspired by @molly0xfff Activity feed, I spent this evening implementing one for my own personal site: https://sarahjamielewis.com/feed.html

A place for me to microblog, collect thoughts, post links, document updates, new papers etc. all in one place.

So excited to hear that the Ghost blogging software is going to support federation via ActivityPub! https://activitypub.ghost.org/

If you sign up for updates, they have a survey where they're asking for feedback. Now's your chance to get your suggestions in!

molly0xfff,
@molly0xfff@hachyderm.io avatar

Cool to see Ghost taking this step, while Substack is over there trying to build walls around their product to trap people in (eg https://www.thewrap.com/substack-follow-feature-problems-subscriptions-down/)

Ghost's post is also how I learned that Buttondown is working on ActivityPub support! 🙌 Exciting times.

molly0xfff,
@molly0xfff@hachyderm.io avatar

@mvilain no, you've got it right. it's not a centralized service like substack or patreon; you sign up per-newsletter.

molly0xfff,
@molly0xfff@hachyderm.io avatar

@wraptile @viq it has its flaws, and i would probably go for a static site if i was just using it for blogging without newsletter functionality. but if you want to send emails or have subscriptions, it works pretty well

After a few restful days, Cookie is back to trying to eat trash on the streets. Probably fitting that she almost went out because of a digestive disorder. Her vet notes say, ‘patient has a history of dietary indiscretion’

Trash is truly her passion no matter what I feed her.

Me: I think I need more flexibility than what mastodon offers right now.

Them: What do you mean? Mastodon is super flexible! What do you need?

Me: Well I don't like X and I'd rather have Y.

Them: Oh, yeah it definitely doesn't do that. But you're sort of wrong for wanting that anyway. Glad I could help!
