Glad to see the VRR being worked on with the dock. I’ve had to disable it when I am playing on my TV for now because it keeps turning off and on over and over

Would Lemmy Benefit from Implementing Polls? (slrpnk.net)

A popular way of dealing with discussions, and familiar to most people, I assume. As far as I see it, adding a poll system to Lemmy is a good way to enhance user engagement. I’m not really aware if this has been a topic before or not, tried looking it up but didn’t see much juice on the topic, so thought I’d spark it up....

Its a good idea, but how would that work with federation? There is already an issue with the number of upvotes on a post differing between instances. Would polls have the same problem or no?

Edit: now that I think about it, polls are already a thing on Mastodon but I don’t know if they have these issues or not.

A raccoon was behind the massive power outage that knocked out electricity to some 7,000 customers in downtown Toronto for hours Thursday night.

Hydro One said a raccoon “made contact with equipment” at a downtown station, which cut the lights for parts of the city. The raccoon’s condition is currently unknown

Tecknet för grader (°). Det finns ju inte. Man får antingen slå in ALT+teckenkod på numeriskt tangentbord eller söka på tecknet och kattenpejsta om man sitter på laptop. Det är ju ändå ett tecken som används i det svenska språket varje gång man talar om temperatur eller vinklar....

You are describing symmetric encryption where both parties have the same key. There is something called asymmetric encryption that solves this. Basically you have a public key and a private key. You can give your public key to youtube, they can use that key to encrypt the symmetric key that will be used for the actual communication. The only way to decrypt the symmetric key is by using your private key, which is only known to you. So youtube can safely send it to you so you can decrypt it. Now you both have the same key and nothing was sent unencrypted.

Well your public key was sent unencrypted but that’s fine because of how asymmetric encryption works.

The “simple” suite of apps was bought by zippoapps, a company that buys popular apps and adds incredibly aggressive monetization that is basically just trying to scam users. You know those “free trials” that cost like 300€ per week once the trial is up so you forget to cancel and pay a bunch of money for an app you don’t want? Yeah that.

I feel your pain. I tried to move my friend group to signal. They were fine with trying it out except one guy who just refused. Since he needed to be part of us planning things everyone just ended up using fb messenger anyways
