Space? Europe recently landed on a comet, something no one else has done, something even NASA has never achieved.

The robotic lander’s instruments obtained the first images from a comet’s surface and made the first in situ analysis of its composition.
Furthermore, do you know who makes the machines that TSMC uses to create the chips that power the worlds smartphones and countless other devices? A European company. Yes Taiwan makes the CPUs, but we make the CPU makers.
Comparing disposable income between US and EU is misleading, because Europeans are forced to pay for things like health insurance or unemployment insurance, while US-americans are free not to have them (and suffer the consequences). In reality every US-american that can, does pay for health insurance, and pays significantly more for worse coverage than Europeans. But in the statistic this is counted as a voluntary expense which is why the disposable income metric is misleading. There is more, like saving for the university education of the children, which again would be counted as disposable income. Europeans get uni education “for free”.
It would be fun, but only for a few minutes. The security and prosperity of Europe depends on the alliance with the USA, whether we like it or not. Could we survive without them? Of course. But we’d be more vulnerable and less rich.
Fast alle Software die wir entwickeln läuft serverseitig auf Linux. Von den Unternehmen die ich kenne ist das bei fast allen so. Die Clients sind nach wie vor Windows, und sie haben AD und Exchange, aber der ganze Rest ist Linux. Kommt evtl auf die Größe des Unternehmens an.
Linux/Unix Sysadmin wird bei uns immer weniger. Die Unixes (AIX, HP-UX, Solaris, etc) gehen zu Gunsten Linux langsam weg. Die klassischen Linux Server werden zu Gunsten von PaaS immer weniger. In der Zukunft braucht’s mMn weniger OS Admins und mehr SREs und Software-Entwickler. Diejenigen die unsere PaaS betreiben sind meistens eine Mischung von SRE und Entwickler (beispielsweise um eigene k8s Operatoren zu schreiben).
Zl;Ng ich sehe in der Software Entwicklung mehr Zukunft. Auch nicht-Dev-Rollen gehen immer mehr Richtung Dev, dank Config Mgmt, DSC (das Konzept, nicht das MS Produkt) und Automatisierung.
Ich hätte eigentlich gedacht gerade im Server und Cloud-Bereich bräuchte es massig Leute die sich mit den Linux Systemen auskennen.
Dem ist auch so. Keine Ahnung wie der Vorkommentator auf was anderes kommen kann. Er meint wahrscheinlich klassische On Prem Server, die sind in der Tat Rückläufig. Aber Linux selber nicht, im Gegenteil, mit der Cloud explodiert die Nutzung geradezu
