There’s so much pressure to be a certain way to fulfill society’s expectations of masculinity.

You have a group of people whose core beliefs, morals and values are deeply rooted in an interpretation of an Abrahamic religion that basically tells it’s followers that suffering will absolve them of their sins and allow them into heaven in the afterlife.

So what do you expect?

The conservative agenda is to keep people poor and less educated so that they can’t understand that is happening and can’t fight back because they’re too busy working trying to earn enough money to survive.

Then add on top of it what I said before plus setting the system up so that people rely on charity to make the rich people feel good about making donations to “help the poor” because that’s the Christian thing to do.

Instead of implementing a proper social safety net and measures that would prevent people from becoming poor in the first place, like building social housing that would accommodate anyone who can’t pay a regular rent, universal basic income, legalizing all drugs to prevent people from going to jail and getting stuck in the loop of being poor from being in jail instead of getting proper care, etc.

I’ve asked a similar question to one of my friends who came out at transphobic.

Basically, he thinks it’s a mental illness and they need therapy to convince themselves they are in fact the gender that they had at birth and to live their life with that original biological gender.

I tried to explain to him that biology and how the human brain works isn’t a perfect science yet, and that it’s possible for people to develop a brain with different wiring that ends up with someone having the opposite gender in their head.

Even that isn’t enough for him.

Let’s just say we don’t talk much anymore…

I sought psychotherapy for depression and it did very little. Never tried meds though because our healthcare system here makes it impossible to get to a psychiatrist, which are the only ones who can prescribe these kinds of meds here.

Certainement que si on découvrait une espèce comme des dauphins sur une autre planète de notre système solaire, on considèrerait ça comme une espèce intelligente. On trouverait un moyen de communiquer avec eux, comme certains l’ont fait avec différents animaux, comme avec les chiens.

I think people are just used to how Twitter works and how to interact with it. Mastodon is the closest thing there is. It’s simple.

Kbin is nice and all with many features, but sometimes people like to have different apps for different functions.

BBC is starting its own Mastodon instance. The CBC should do the same.

As it says in the title, the BBC is starting its own Mastodon instance. I think the CBC (and other news networks) should do similar. Particularly with the recent passing of Bill C-18 it seems like a world where the links we share are crossposts to news organization’s own content is the perfect resolution to that whole issue.

I’m looking at a live stream of the house hearing and I’m looking at all the politicians that are there and I can’t believe than these are the people that are going to overlook how we get in contact with extraterrestrial intelligent life. We’re so fucked.
