I love seeing old film photos of mine. Reminds me of past lives.

From one of the first rolls I ever shot as a teenager: Cambodia in one of the Angkor temples (around 2004)

Something about the colors and ‘look’ of the film photo makes it more visceral to me, like I can remember that memory better

@skinnylatte This feels like one of those title photos for Lonely Planet Cambodia. 😊

Has anyone in Japan seen House of Ninjas? If so, what do you think?

cydonian,
@cydonian@vivaldi.net avatar

@atomicpoet I’m interested as well. Begun to watch the show and like the premise, but am keen on understanding the Japanese reaction to it.

On the eve of General Elections, India’s Income Tax department levies a fine worth ₹ 2 billion on the lead opposition party over a dispute worth ₹1.4 million dating 7 years back. As a result, they have frozen their accounts.

Bloddy hell. Red Ventures - the digital marketing geniuses who made CNet a front for AI generated spam - have also bought over Lonely Planet.

Hearing bad things about the latest edition of Lonely Planet Great Britain. Will be checking it out soon.

@nitin Thanks! Also, in case you were wondering, I can confirm that Shahi Maharani at the former Westin Plaza is still its same self: hasn’t changed in 24 years. 😊

Took forever for my aunt to go to bed, but mom and I just spent the last few hours painting each other's nails 💅 🥰

I'm not very good at it, but I loved every moment and made a miserable day worth it

cydonian,
@cydonian@vivaldi.net avatar

@MoonshotErin I’m sure you guys know this, but I recently learnt that one does not do the outline first and then fill the nail in like one does in colouring books. One apparently starts from a single side, and overlays the paint gradually till one reaches the other side. Blew my mind when I found this out.

@MoonshotErin Glad you had some bonding time with your mom! 😊 Bit curious now, but what colour did you put?

At the Singapore premiere for Matilda the Musical. Watched it once on stage in Westend, and watched both movie versions, but the wife is a big fan of the show and has successfully passed on the fandom to our daughter.

Meanwhile, I’ve successfully incepted the daughter with Harry Belomfonte, so she’s now singing about girls who take money and run Venezuela while waiting for a musical about a bookworm girl.

King of fruits: why choose between mango and durian?

cydonian,
@cydonian@vivaldi.net avatar

@samebchase We do, but this juice was made from Thai mangoes in Malaysia.

(I’m Team Mango as well. 😊 Just that South East Asians like my wife insist durian is the king of fruits and not mangoes. This is my way of declaring truce on the everlasting discussion in the household )

Traders in Mahbubnagar district’s Narāyanapēta still use the Modi script to write accounts and communicate secretly, both among themselves and with other traders in Pune. Its usage, however, is dying. (The article seems to imply it is used for Marathi and Telugu but doesn’t say explicitly)

There is a Unicode block and a font, however. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modi_script

I find introductions very awkward 🙈 but here goes nothing.

My name is Pooja 👋🏼 I live and work from a suburb of Delhi.

I’m a senior designer at TypeTogether https://www.type-together.com/, where I draw type, engineer fonts, do research and write.

That aside, my interests lie in scripts from India, especially Devanagari, and others used in the northern plains. I also enjoy lettering and designing books.

I recently started a newsletter about type and design curiosities http://www.matratype.com/my-typographic-eye.
