That was half an hour, with a 4% lidocaine cream. It wasn’t bad, we got about a big thumbprint of area on my chin (My understanding is it will take multiple passes to really clear that spot), and I’ll book an hour next time. I’m a bit red and puffy and quite numb. Also, it tells me I can leave much smaller areas un-shaven for now.

It used to be that I posted a selfie and nobody gave a shit. I’d maybe get a couple likes. Now I’m used to get a certain amount of likes and comments and it’s kind of a problem, because if I post something and it doesn’t “perform” then I start thinking like “Did I look fat? Is it because my boobs are small? I shouldn’t post photos without makeup”. It’s dangerous. I can’t expect every photo to do numbers. I’m a person not a brand.

@danirabbit I am definitely dealing with the whiplash of posting my first selfie and it doing fedi-numbers, and then the next, and the next (all of which was definitively 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯), and now if I post a photo during quiet hours and it languishes at all, my brain is like “people think you are a narcissistic bitch.” “Stop posting selfies, no one wants to see you be happy, happy people are boring.” “What are you doing on fedi, everyone is abandoning it, and you should feel bad.”

My brain is an asshole.

I'm going to ramble a bit, but it will hopefully come around to something. When I was growing up, I read a lot of older historical book series, a big one would be the Little House On The Prairie series. While I really enjoyed it, there are some very obviously negative portrayals of Native Americans and African Americans. I remember being angry about it as a kid, and my Dad telling me, that part of learning about history is that we have to acknowledge the people we were, and still are. But because Little House on the Prairie is only semi-autobiographical, I still have mixed feelings about this. I do think they are well written books by a female author, an interesting perspective on early American life, and as an adult I can see and acknowledge the issues with the text. If we try to get rid of every author with racist ideas there wouldn't be much left to read from the 20th Century, and it also feels like being dishonest about who we are. So, I'm very mixed, how do you all feel about it? Do you think children can handle books with racial issues like this if it's explained to them? What is our responsibility here?

@RickiTarr I think my take is, we’ve got so many good authors working today, cranking out good stuff now, I don’t think we need to cling to “the classics” past the point at which they become problematic.

    A year ago, tonight, a girl who’d never seen her own reflection was sitting with her Eldest child for bedtime. And after Eldest fell asleep, she came across a post suggesting that wishing that she was the other gender was not a very cis thing to do.

    It only took a few days to conclude that she wanted to transition so she could show her children what it meant to live authentically. She didn’t want her example to them to be living in the closet.

    Anyway. It’s been quite a year.

    I just signed up for a 6 weeks Beginner Inclusive Yoga Class :ablobcatheartsqueeze:

    Long long time ago I dabbled in yoga. I have wanted to get back into some kind of slow, intentional, movement.

    Been following this teacher from the UK for a while who has a body like mine. She's ADAMANT about being inclusive in her sessions and teaching.

    As I get older, I realize I need more movement in my life, to care for this body of mine.

    Youngest calls me Daddy. I’m not super happy about it, and I am worried about it for summer activities, but it is what it is.

    Recently, Youngest climbed onto a two person swing (one of the “horse” or “elephant-ear” style ones) with another kid and asked me to push the swing.

    Other: “Where’s your dad?”
    Youngest: “I have two moms!”
    Other: “Is your dad dead!?”
    Youngest: “No!”
    Other: “But where’s your dad?”
    Youngest, laughing at the absurdity: “I have TWO MOMS!”
    Other: “… your mom is good at pushing.”
