We have been approached by multiple users asking us to hard-fork to focus on fixing code quality, we have always rejected such proposals as we intend to stay a soft-fork but we should at least ask the community as a whole what they want, as we are a community project

@dalekcoffee I am looking to make the same Mastodon > Sharkey move as you. What issues did you encounter using the same domain? Or is that not viable for Fedi at all? That's what I thought I heard in the past...😬
@BeAware so after doing lots of research on it, I kept seeing warnings against doing this
Forgive my ignorance as I'm not 100% on the details but apparently when you create a fedi instance it generates like keys to sign messages with that it sends remote
and from what I have heard, if you shut down your server and start a new one, other servers might reject the new messages because they dont match the signatures from the previous ones?
Mastodon has a tootctl self destruct to help with this, but only other mastodon servers respect it not other software
and I also found that if you shut down your server completely other servers DO time out eventually but... the way they handle the server time out can often be suspending your domain as a whole which defeats the purpose
The other problem is if you have users that want to keep their followers. You will need to have everyone move to a temporary server (you can deploy another masto one on a subdomain) and then they wait for the new one to come online before you stand it up
its a big headache. But my thing is I REALLY didnt want a subdomain, if you are already on a subdomain, shit I would say use s.beware.live or fedi. or shark. shork. something like that will make your life much easier imo
