@marcedwards They've been talking about this change for a while. I got forced into it yesterday. It's a super slow roll out because it breaks so many things. I think our work account is being forced to migrate in about a month. We'll keep delaying if we're able.

@marcedwards They've been emailing about the work account changes, but this change, the File Provider API version was a banner at the top of the menu bar app where they stick those little offers like “want us to back up your mac? click here!”. My laptop was refusing to connect and sync so I thought the update might get me back on track. Not only will it still not sync but now it's this new, extra terrible version.

@marcedwards Bottom line, click that "not now” button as long as you're able. Eventually (supposedly) Apple is going to force them into using it for everyone, but while you have a choice, stay away from it.

Dropbox finally forced me to update to the new File Provider API version where it shoves everything into CloudStorage for safety or whatever.

It's been "indexing" for 2 days, all my files have the fun little ☁️ icon, and yet it filled my entire hard drive with files that it’s now unable to remove because it's full and stuck.

It seems like Dropbox's new “Manage Hard Drive Space" tool that's supposed batch-move things to online-only won't work till it finishes indexing...which it can't do.

After a chat with support, couple of notes:

  • migrating to the File Provider version of the app on a specific device is irreversible
  • it's unclear if I'll be able to link my work and personal accounts on this computer again, have to wait until it finishes indexing (he literally said "we'll see” wtf)

❓Did Instagram change their color temperature and exposure handling lately? Any previously edited photo uploaded to Instagram looks totally blasted out after posting. Photos that look ok in drafts get big color shifts and exposure changes after.

It’s been this way for a couple weeks. It’s annoying that a photo app can’t do WYSIWYG editing reliably.

Is it just me? Makes me never want to post to Instagram again.
