In 2003, a friend ran her first 5k and raised money for a great cause, Guide Dogs for the Blind and I gave $20 happily. To this day, Guide Dogs mails me postcards every few months, no matter how many times my address changes. Today I got this text from the nonprofit 21 years after my sole donation.
My point is Customer Relations Management (CRM) software like Salesforce is too good at what it does and must be stopped.
Someone contacted me about a blog post I wrote around 2004 about a 1993 issue of Wired I bought on eBay back then that they desperately need today and I probably still have it in a storage box sitting with old office things.
Given the current state of Google Search, I’m amazed they found any part of this.
Tailscale is the goddamned greatest. I also had to use it recently on plane WiFi when downloading updates from the App Store was completely blocked by the airline.
@dropkickdesign I used to run dynamic DNS to reach my home machines with various firewall rules, the whole thing was a barely concealed security hole that Tailscale does way better and more securely.
Whenever I walk through an airport and see tech company ads like this, I thank my lucky stars I don’t remotely have any idea what 90% of the acronyms stand for
A big new iPad Pro with the new keyboard would be great but I checked and it’s $1848 which is $500+ more than a new 15” MacBook Air, and I didn’t see any mention of MagSafe charging being added to iPads.
If Apple made a home dock wireless charger/holder like the Google tablets have, I’d buy one for the kitchen counter as a family Apple Home controller/recipe lookup screen that is always charged and ready to play tv/movies when undocked.
Unfortunately for Apple, iPads don't "wear out" or need replacement like phones and computers do in my life. I still happily watch YouTube and Plex every night before bed on my (purchased used) 2019 iPad Pro with a Magic Keyboard that also doubles as a decent travel computer.
A bigger, better screen is about the only feature that would cause me to upgrade, since it feels like iPads can run 5-10 years just fine for viewing Safari and playing back video, but the price points are too high.
Over the last ten years I've bought three different iPads, all with pencils and never once used the Apple Pencil on them for more than five minutes. I get that they're killer for artists and people illustrating comics and stuff, but my handwriting is godawful (thanks computers!) and I'll never need another Apple Pencil again.
