They handed me a dormant sub I requested before the protest was happening, while I was protesting. So I blacked it out too and added it to the protest.
I like to imagine that admin was like "I don't know what I expected."
That's what I did. When we came back I never did the John Oliver stuff, we opened as normal and got to work finding a new home for the community members that wanted one.
If that kind of free speech is allowed, I absolutely pray that I'm also allowed to mock you incessantly for it. Conservatives check in like "Hey am I allowed to be intolerant here? I just wanna be sure you won't ban me for spouting hate."
I'll be honest, the John Oliver thing was kinda dumb in the first place. Just... Don't post. Don't feed reddit if you want to protest. Going to reddit and still shitposting because you're mad at reddit and want to kill their traffic... I don't think anyone really thought this through too well.
You can and should defederate from things you don't want to see. That's the whole point of the entire project, that you can control your experience and choose to interact with whatever communities you wish. The Donald has a history of brigading and generally being a barbarian horde of racist dickheads, so defederating from them makes absolute sense. This isn't just "I don't like your opinion", it's absolutely "these people have a proven history of ruining every group they go near."
I'm Jewish. They think I have secret space lasers that start forest fires. No, I don't have to "give them a space so I don't have an echo chamber", a lot of them want me dead. This isn't about politics.
For me, the first thing I'd do is clear my family of all debts(or whatever financial issues) there is and then the second thing i'd do is buy a hundred Siomai for me to eat...
The more people see the engagement, the more chance of them asking "what is that?" It won't be long until the apps are better, and links to articles could be less likely to get suppressed than migration memes....
Yes, reddit bans people for hate speech. And why are you going to every sub and thread talking about this? It's almost like it's not just a casual conversation topic but you're actively spreading hate propaganda. Gee I wonder WHY you keep getting banned.
Maybe don't make political talking points from a hate group your entire personality.
I also don't like the Lemmy devs because of the nonsense they pull around the topic of the Chinese and Russian governments.
Still don't block the people on my subs from talking about it. Because I'm not an asshole, and I don't have to like everything that gets posted to my subs.
Yeah I end up having to report about 10 threads a day to reddit for report abuse spam because of this, they report it as hate speech when people talk about the blackout positively, trying to get people banned to silence them. The only way to prevent that is report each case of it to the admins so they know it's a targeted attack. What these assholes are ACTUALLY doing is just making more work for the moderators that care if their members are banned over some dumb shit.
They don't want you finding content, they want you watching the content they feed you. That's why you used to be able to just subscribe and see videos, and then you had to ring the bell to see stuff you subscribed to (BECAUSE WHY WOULD YOU SUBSCRIBE TO SOMETHING YOU DIDN'T WANT TO SEE?) and then you only actually GET to see that content if you're also allowing notifications to spam you about it. The process literally changed to "if you want to always see what you want, instead of what we tell you you want, you have to let us blow up your phone 24/7." Fuck the modern internet, this is the reason I tend to just hide in my old video games most of the time now.
For those who don't know, retrogaming on Reddit was a labour of love, there is a multireddit, m/retrogamingnetwork that networks over 60 subreddits under one banner giving the audience, banner, and reach of a big subreddit to some very small and niche spaces....
Oh, we do. It took a few to get it sorted but we're actually doing it here. The community was really nice to me when this thread happened, and heard me out, I like the people here. So we're moving here. I already started setting up the mags, and will be handing them off/recruiting mods from forum.fail after it's all set up and people start coming over.
Eventually I'm going to crowdsource an entire instance just for us and get some bots to scrape whatever happens at reddit, build an archive and a website for the posts about rare hardware and just cooler stuff that pops up. We're archivists first and foremost, that's what retro gaming really is. I don't trust that solely in the hands of reddit right now, you're 100% correct.

Shout-out to my sisters and brothers-in-arms!...
Will I be banned? Looking to migrate from Reddit, but only if free speech is paramount.
Looking to see if I am welcom on kbin to express the viewpoint that it is not possible to be "trans."...
Mods at /r/videos now require all post titles to contain profanity
They explain:...
r/The_Donald now on Lemmy (edit: not anymore)
It was banned on Reddit because it is racist, hatefull and spread Conspiracies....

Why it'll only get worse from here.
You just won One Billion Dollars, what are you buying?

Rather than telling Reddit users to migrate, share links to Fediverse posts to drive them here

Did r/retrogaming mods get demodded for supporting the blackout?
