"Let me show you some of my FAVORITE games!" -- The Collector

I play and collect #tabletop #rpgs, especially ones focused on collaborative storytelling over simulationist mechanics. I am interested in #Solarpunk, #Storytelling, #Neurodivergence, and #Mindfulness. I am from Belgium and currently live in the Netherlands, I post mostly English but might occasionally post in Dutch.

Someone asked whether I ever played Doom. No, not really. I told that I've never liked first person shooters and then it hit me. I never liked them as there's too much going on. In fact, I've never been a big fan of any types of shooters, the only exception being Cannon Fodder. Now, with the new-found autistic perspective, it makes perfect sense. Sensory overdrive all the time equals no fun. How about my fellow autistics, any fans of shooters?

Never liked them, no. Too fast, too little opportunity for tinkering and stategizing. The only exception that I did enjoy being Unreal Tournament 2004, which I often played with a group of friends, which was an excellent way of bonding over enjoyment of a shared activity.

The third rule would destroy all current popular LLMs, and that might be for the best.

Someone make a diceless game that's a set of tarot-sized cards, where each is a Commedia Dell'Arte character, art on the front, moves on the back.

You grab characters from the middle of the table, do scenes, the moves push you into a Commedia Dell'Arte story.

I am certain this is possible, and could be totally awesome, but I.... don't really wanna write it?

@LeviKornelsen This is an amazing idea

I've using Feedly as my RSS reader for the last decade or so, I'm happy with it but I wonder if I'm missing something out there that is better. It doesn't have to be free but no subscriptions please.

@djlink I've moved from Google Reader to Feedly to Inoreader and finally to a self-hosted FreshRSS installation, which I am very happy with.

You can now order The Soothsayer's Deck, print on demand, from DrivethruRPG!

    Go get it!

Er, unless you are located well outside the US, and relaxed about production times. In that case, a version from The Game Crafter will likely be available in upcoming weeks; same item, probably slightly pricier and longer wait, but WILDLY better international shipping from the look of it.

    Clicky:

Hey, 5E friends, I need some recommendations!

My nephew plays 5E with his friends. They're in like 8th and 9th grade. I pulled his name in our holiday gift-giving lottery and it seems to me like, with your help, I can give him an interesting book or two.

So, if you can, please recommend me:
    • 5E books
    • In print
    • Off the beaten path
    • Suitable for 8th & 9th graders

    Thank you!

@lumpley Harper's Tale is a pretty amazing adventure and specifically written to also be accessible for younger players: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/311843/Harpers-Tale-A-Forest-Adventure-Path-for-5e?

Okay, let me actually show you some of my . To kick off things, what better place to start than the game that first opened my eyes to the world of RPGs beyond D&D: OVA the Anime RPG. Even though I never played it much, it taught me many things such as:

    • RPGs do not have to be complicated
    • Combat does not have to be the main focus
    • You can create any character you want by just listing a few attributes
And the art of course does a superb job at drawing you into the game!

The personal annoyance of needing to type "social class" instead of just "class" over and over in an RPG when talking about, like, 'the laboring class' vs. 'the ruling class', because D&D fucked up the term.

    Harumph.

    @LeviKornelsen
I'd be curious to see a settin that leans into the ambiguity by having the different social classes be "rogue", "fighter", "wizard" and "cleric".

Interesting post by @thomas on different RPG playstyles: https://ttrpg.substack.com/p/147-gm-driven-vs-player-driven

I've been slowly moving from the top-left corner towards the bottom-right corner, ever since @slyflourish set me on this path. Though it's still tough to pull my group with me, I do enjoy stories more if they are unpredictable and player-driven!
