elkaki,

Why not?

(Also look at the community you are replying in… What use is there on quesrioning why people use reddit on the c/reddit, it’s like when people say “why are you using 4chan” on r/4chan lol)

elkaki,

I mean, yeah somewhat, I’m just pointing out the idiocy of asking that question in a place specifically designed to talk about those places.

Also, regardless of how bad the sites as a whole are, making the transition fully is just plain too difficult, there are communities that haven’t moved and no matter if you are putting effort to have them here, you won’t be able to get a question about a program answered if there are 3 active people on a community

elkaki,

Finally! It feels like an eternity since we’ve got a normal chapter

elkaki,

I reread D-frag, its one of my comfort reads so I read it now and again from beginning to end.

I also read The Bully In-Charge up to chapter 69, its another korean delinquent work in a world where adults dont intervene no matter how bad things get and kids are so vicious they send each other to the hospital in a daily basis. The catch here being that some higher ups at the education foundation decided to hire a 20 year old ex delinquent to go to school as a 16 year old and beat the crap out of the bullies, so he gets to dominate them. I don’t think it was trying to do comedy, but it ended up being hilarious in many situations I laughed out loud, it is pretty ridiculous at times. The fights were somewhat good, but near the end it is getting into the typical delinquent manwha territory where gangs and drugs get involved in every high school conflict and also some special bullshit ability is getting introduced, which kind of ruins the “somewhat plausible fiction” element of the fights into straight-up fantasy. (similar to what happens into kuroko no basket to give some reference)

elkaki,

It just bugs me how repetitive the mafia involvement plot lines get in this genre, it is in virtually in every single one and when it gets there it does it in the most stupid or unnecessary ways.

Loved your analogy, I didn’t think it that way before but 21 jump street × fight club fits it really well. I’m probably gonna start using it to describe it lol

One last thing just in case you get somewhat interested, the korean delinquent manwhas are a completely different genre from the manga ones. Like, manga is usually more romantic about the figure of the delinquent, it also treats it as a weird in between of the worlds of adults and teenagers, stories usually show the protagonist as a noble delinquent. Manwhas are more like trashy entertainment, there is an absurd amount of bullying going around, lots of them are revenge stories from weak to OP, here the protagonist s usually act vigilante-like, and the fights are usually phenomenal, it feels like it is the biggest focus on most works and most manage to make shonen tier pacing of fight after fight being entertaining.

elkaki,

Just one thing to add, people freaking out is extremely uncommon. I haven’t even heard about a case IRL, even for trans people it isn’t something that tends to happen.

Don’t be afraid to just guess when you are unsure, you can always ask though and at least for younger generations it isn’t seen as weird or unpolite to do so

elkaki,

A.K.A “the Jordan Peterson experience”

elkaki,

Have you read monster?

The author is by no means underrated, but I can’t express enough how much I enjoy his big stories.

elkaki,

I sure love it when people use a single opinion to smear a person’s entire legacy, he was great not only for the tech stuff but his stance on scientific articles piracy and a lot of other stuff too.

I won’t say that that his opinion on cp is a great one (there is no doubt at least for me that distribution should always be illegal), but he wrote it as a 16 years old and it was guided due to his extremism for free speech over the internet, regardless, it’s not like he himself was an evil person distributing child pornography, to paint him as an overall shitty person for an opinion like this seems idiotic imo

This is q bit personal and maybe slightly unrelated, but it reminds me of when people defend non-offending pedos (as in they are attracted to children because yhey are born that way but have not offended, nor groomed, nor harmed a child) saying the stigma should be erased because that would allow us to actually help this people who constantly hide it, therefore reducing the harm to children. This position has unironically got me called a pedophile and a lot of horrible stuff over the internet, and I would draw parallels to this situation, no matter how you slice it this opinion should not be used singlehandedly to state he is someone that shouldn’t be respected. Especially since he is not defending the harm itself being done to children (as in the production of CP) which would still be a crime under his view. (Although distribution of course grows the market so it’s idiotic not to go after that too), but as I said, it’s a bad opinion but that doesn’t make him a bad person.

elkaki,

No clue if this community allows for links, but I just checked on nyaa.si and if you search by leechers, the second result is an 189 gb file with seasons 1 to 19

elkaki,

Oh boy, he is gonna erase his memory isn’t he?

elkaki,

That isn’t even porn, it’s just anime??? Like, it may be a bit cringe (it depends a LOT on how much your family knows about that kind of artstyle), but this isn’t nowhere as bad as going to the new section when you have the nsfw filter off and 3 of every 5 games is porn…

Not something I would complain tbh, if you despise seeing this kind of workd try blocking tags

elkaki,

Shittiest sarcasm I’ve seen today…

Edit: wow, looking at his post history this wasn’t even an attempt on sarcasm, what a sensible way to assert your “pro life” beliefs

elkaki,

Tldr: All in all, Elon hasn’t really changed how he operates, it’s just that since aligning openly with the right he has been more open about a lot of shit and also has been boosting a lot of shit he probably doesn’t really believe. This in turn has extinguished a lot of the support he had in the internet which leads to people actually scrutinizing his character and a lot more than what he says has come to light or is being analyzed in a different light to what it was back then, painting Elon as the evil and stupid billionare he actually is.

The actual comment:

I know you said to not say he has always been like that, but the honest truth is he has been like that, it’s just that the media was used to taking everything he said at face value and he was a bit more restrained (although not necessarily on interviews themselves).

The amount of controversy about him busting unions, having poor working conditions, stealing credit from his engineers, this was always public knowledge even when he was generally beloved by the common redditors. This is not meant to be a dig or anything, but at least on the leftists circles I tend to participate in this was always mentioned whenever he was in talks, it’s just that most people don’t care when billionares are exploitative pieces of shit, yhey just care about the image they sell.

He was also always surrounded by stupid scandals pre 2021, be it the submarine pedo (where for some reason I saw people on refdit defending him), him suddenly denying his family had shares on emerald mines, him and all his sex and abuse scandals, it all made news but got forgotten as soon as he pulled an “epic move” like doge coin…

What I said before is regarding his actions and actual contributions to the companies he controls, which is related to why he is do shit at handling twitter as a company, now about his public persona, the tweets he currently posts and why he is hated en mass.

Most his memes have always been reposts, buy the problem is that he now aligns with the far right in the united states, there are many reasons of why this happened and this has been absolutely clear when he daid that shit about Dems being shit now do he moved towards republicans (which is a lie but it’s the poiny where the public noticed he is a republican despite him being on the forefront of electric cars), due to his alignment and changes to the poilitical spehere on the US being on the right now means believing a lot of racial conspiracy lies, that environmental change is a lie (which ironically hurts his own business), that January 6 was justified, etc. Elon right now boosts about any and all right wing accounts he ca find by replying “how curious” to the most insane racist meme about the DESPITE BEING 13% meme

elkaki,

I really like your narratization of the events, for me it had to do with him always being shitty but people always turning a blind eye because they fall into grand futuristic schemes instead of recognizing the union busting, sex scandal fiend may be a piece of shit.

Also a factor you didn’t mention was his fall into the alt right which has gained ire from most people over the internet (aside from right wing echo chambers or his twitter clique)

elkaki,

As an aside note, I don’t like when OP’s don’t interact with the posts they make. Especially on posts like this it would have really interesting to gain more insight on where he was coming from or if the replies are making sense in his mind.

I’m probably reading too much into this, there are many reasons not to reply, but when I see a popular post that has 0 replies by OP I feel there’s dishonesty.

elkaki,

If this is why people want their instances to do it that’s mainly because lemmy hasn’t give appropriate tools at the user level to block entire instances unlike Kbin or Mastodon. (For now you can kind of block seeing them with apps like connect for lemmy, but someone from that instance would still be able to see and repply to your comments, or send you DMs)

As to why a user would want to block an instance and not just particular communities, there are many use cases, for example I didn’t want to bñur NSFW images but I didn’t want to see my frontpage filled with porn, so instead of blocking 10000 communities I just blocked 2 nsfw instances. There is also the culture fostered inside some communities that can lead them to become filled with alt right people or openly facistic rcho chamber which often harrass people, especially minorities.

I agree completely this request is dumb, but this doesn’t look like the community to have this discussion.

Benefits of smoking cigarettes?

My girlfriend has threatened to break up with me several times now unless I cut down to a pack a week. I’m not addicted but it does help me get through my day. I keep trying to tell her that but she doesn’t believe me and keeps saying that it’s actually bad. I want to prove to my girlfriend that smoking cigarettes is...

elkaki,

Most probably, but there is always the possibility of people either being underage, stupid or unaware due to upbringing (imagine being told your whole life something is in a particular way, it isnt unreasonable not to doubt that) and I prefer to engage honestly with people even if I look like an idiot, just in case.

Of course when clear bad faith is shown I will just not engage, or call it out, but in

elkaki,

It really isn’t, at least in the way the term is used. For example, would you describe the feeling you get after snorting cocaine as a “health benefit” just because you feel better momentarily???

elkaki,

For me it was the opposite lol, Im a fan of manga isekai, even progression rpg based isekai like this one are usually fun, but this one in particular felt tedious, like I should be reading the light novel instead since it was just boxes and boxes of text explaining the skills and level ups and such.

elkaki,

So for the past week (and be advised since sometimes I rant a little bit, I try not to spoil anything important just in case someone is looking into this as recommendations, there are short introductions of what each manga is in case you are interested):

I kind of tried reading but dropped a few chapters in; She Gets Girls Everyday. (it just wasnt my kind of yuri, nor particularly funny) and also The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You.

As for the completed series:

  • Read Isekai Walking up to chapter 32. This is another story of someone being transported into another world but has a useless skill and gets kicked out of the Hero party but then it turns out the skill was really OP, here the skill being that he gains xp for every single step he takes. It was mid, there were some interesting ideas i did like, like the parallel thinking ability being used to sleep like a dolphin or ingredients like a butterfly that was actually a honey plant, but it felt generic and it didn’t manage to shake out that feeling.
  • Read Villager A Wants to Save the Villainess No Matter What!, read up to chapter 17. Its a villainess story where someone gets transported into another world, the twist here is that the protagonist is reincarnated as a commoner but he has to save the heroine else the political turmoil will end his and his mothers life. There were a few things to highlight, for example how much time the protagonist spends preparing before the events of the game he was transported into come. I also liked the surrounding cast, especially the adventurers that are all a likeable bunch. But this manga constantly made me irritated, it is a typical villainess story where the protagonist gets sent into a game where he needs to save the “villainess” so that the country doesnt enter a civil war, but here lies the whole problem I have with this series. The game it is supposedly based on is barely a game at all and would be incredibly shitty and boring if it existed, its supposed to be a romance but the main path gets innocent people killed for the whims of the protagonist, you get the villainess killed by “bandits” when she didnt really harass you and also she has 0 support by anyone before she dies, starts a civil war due to you as a commoner dating a prince, which gets another country to take advantage of that and invade… and that is supposed to be the desirable ending??? I like the villainess genre specifically because it is usually intelligent in its usage of tropes and a lot of the time manages to turn situations that seemed justified into seriously messed up just by shining a different perspective into the story, but that is not the case here since the story that is behind all this, im referring to the game of course, is bad for badness sake, just so that the protagonist can complain. Its like a cheap imitation of what makes villainess great since instead of taking actual common situations and flipping them here it just creates artificial obvious problems that a 4 year old could understand are wrong so that the protagonist can complain about them and be justified in attacking the princes later… Its a shame because I was hyped for this one.

Im currrently reading:

  • My Isekai Life: I Gained a Second Character Class and Became the Strongest Sage in the World!, currently up to 19 of 59 current chapters. Its about this corporate drone who dies and gets transported to another world, he has the class of a tamer which is considered pretty useless but makes friend of some slimes and upon reaching a cabin in the woods encounters a lot of books that give him a lot of power, making him into a sage. He is unaware of how powerful he has become and the story kind of starts from then (this is like half of the first chapter) For now its another ultra OP isekai chapter, although his dispassionate attitude towards this new world has annoyed me a lot. But the Slime personality are cute and likeable and there are a lot of things going on in the background. Here and there it has showed a few interesting ideas so I will probably try to finish it by tomorrow.
  • I’m Really Not the Devil’s Lackey, currently up to 41 of 93 released chapters. Its a misunderstandings based comedy where a guy makes a wish to a demon to own all the books in the world, he gets transported to another world with London-esque post industrial revolution aesthetics where there are mutants and some crazy magical entities. He is oblivious to all of this and sees the visitors as normal people, to whom he always tries to help by recommending books to them. The setting was incredible although the story itself has made me a bit disappointed in terms of the comedy aspect of it all, and I also feel it really doesn explain anything well about the world.
elkaki,

Good on downloading tachiyomi, that app has completely changed how much manga Im able to read on my phone due to how easy it is to download it all and just how easy it is to change sources when one goes bad and doesnt update anymore.

elkaki,

Just read the synopsis since I havent read it but the Palimony one looks like an interesting twist on the villainess manga, hope its really good.

elkaki, (edited )

Ok I just read the first arc

spoilerI was really enjoying it all, but the finale was so dumb it killed a lot of my enjoyment, I mean, this kind of finale could have worked in theory, but too many elements worked against it to kill my suspension of disbelief. First, the king being there was an absolute overkill, there is no way a marquis son, regardless of how stupid he is, would simply interrupt the king. Then there is how little respect he showed towards the king, there were zero gestures towards them, and his breaking of the engagement was too sloppy, like him asking the king to condemn the protagonist for adultery… that she supposedly did with the prince. He said that with a smile on his face but he was essentially accusing the prince of adultery. I feel the finale would have worked better if it was handled between students with the prince as a witness or something, if it was going to involve the king no matter how stupid Romeo is he should have some kind of education, at least an ounce, there is no way he can just treat a king that way? That’s about the arc finale specifically, but I did like the rest a lot, the protagonist attitude towards money, her plans, her being so proficient with handling business, etc.

elkaki,

I love this response, dont worry about length this is in part what I was looking for. Sorry for not replying earlier I have not been near my pc for a few days and replying on my phone is a pain since I’m clumsy and often delete long responses by accident. PD: I have really been enjoying the Cynic Clinic youtube channel.

Having said that, I think a better question would have been “what is a review”, my problem mainly is that I have trouble grasping the term and its usage in each page. To clarify, If I want to recommend something I call it a recommendation and media essays are essays, you focus on whatever caught your attention as long as you are able to convey it in an interesting or thought provoking way, what I thought at the beginning of what reviews where was a general thought about the work exclusively intended for people that have already engaged with the work. My doubt has come from two places, first steam calls the “reviews” section to something that is clearly recommendations, it is extremely clear you are supposed to recommend over there, not include spoilers and generally point it towards someone interested in buying, so reviews over there arent really reviews.

Then comes Anilist, I have been using that site a lot more in the recent years for tracking purposes and I thought it would be great to engage with it a bit more towards people there since I dont usually talk about anime or manga too much irl , I saw the “review” section over the front page on each manga and usually its left empty, so I proposed to myself I should write a review. Here is where the conflict comes, it being so visible made me think it was for recommendations more than reviews but then again you could find proper reviews, recommendations and a mix of the two over there.

I wanted to be cautious just in case the review section is used for recommendations only as it would be pretty bad if people were using those spaces to see whether they should read a manga and they saw a full spoilers in first paragraph review…

Having said that I still havent decided whether to write a recommendation or more of an essay style review, both have their pros and cons and are interesting in their own right
