Communities devoted to explicit material saw rising popularity, and r/jailbait, which featured provocative shots of underage teenagers, became the chosen “subreddit of the year” in the “Best of reddit” user poll in 2008, and at one point, making “jailbait” the second most common search term for the site.

Oh, it still is. It's just that laws only apply to some of us.

You're supposed to go to the search and type !magazineName but I couldn't get that to work. Instead, I pasted the full url into the search to find it. Once lemmy finds it, it will start synching over time.

New cannibalistic salamander species discovered in Fujian, China (lemmy.ml)

Once spotted in 1978 and thought to have gone extinct, the Fujian Bamboo Salamander has been found again. According to DNA analysis, this cannibalistic species has an average or above average rate of genetic divergence compared to other salamander species. They also have been witnessed vocalizing, which isn’t something...

Which is too bad. I never went back and never plan to.

Then I hope they wipe their subreddits while they can.

Thanks! Snagged myself a full bundle.

Free online courses/YouTube series on the technologies of the Industrial Revolution?

The most in-depth video I was able to find regarding the invention of the steam engine spends 15 minutes on the topic. I can safely say that steam, iron, coal and pistons are involved, but I never learned what a piston is (I know they exist and are in engines) in school, so I can't grok the engine as a whole because of the...

Something like the American Precision Museum or videos of Fred Dibnah might help? He even has an episode called Engines at Work .

I did something similar in school. Would the staple go into my finger if I push it down? Yes, yes it did.

Sounds like you've got a wonderful setup there! Keep an eye on those blackberries. We have Himalayan Blackberry around here and they get out of control in a heartbeat.

P.s. I'm envious of your fireflies.

Does anyone know what this is? (imgur.com)

I found this buried in my garden. It's steel, with some flecks of galvanization still visible here and there. Definitely stamped from sheet stock originally, the ring is welded, and it's especially interesting to me that the right "foot" of the little "table" cutout is narrower than the left one, as if it's keyed to connect to...

Good find. I kept noticing different patent numbers on them and was a little confused, since the safety pin has its own patent and was created before these things. To further my confusion, I also found this page which shows a key attached to the pin.

Very interesting rabbit hole!

I drink energy drinks (I know, I know) and finding ones without sucralose or erythritol is tough. Time to change habits for the better, I suppose.

I'm in the same boat as you, but I'm hoping to see Reddit experience the consequences of their greed.

In addition to 3rd party apps dying, so will the helpful bots that help moderate, help you easily save a video or identify a song, or even Reddit Enhancement Suite.

I bet it's great camouflage against eagles and owls looking for a meal. I just read that they can live up to 20 years in the wild and they eat pretty much anything. They also almost went extinct in Europe in the past due to them being over hunted for their crests to be used in women's hats.

Thanks for those cute pics!
