Intrigued by the fact that the Verge story announcing Palmer Luckey’s new Game Boy clone reads very different from the original version, in part because the comments are literally flooded with people attacking the author for giving the console coverage at all.

Props to the commenters for keeping The Verge honest, for sure.

@film_girl I think that’s fair. Certainly Sean’s point about being able to compartmentalize in the comments is absolutely fair, and I think a lot of people do that nowadays with creative works.

It’s tough because you’re right—this is a vanity project that is likely to cost a lot more money than not. But at the same time, some of the ecosystem work he’s doing with this device … why would an indie dev choose to work with him and not, say, Panic?

It’s awkward all around.

One of the best investments I made this year was paying $250 to a local coffee shop to be a member of their coffee club. They gave me a cup, and they give me free cold brews. It’s worth it.

As chains go, Panera does something similar, but it’s a monthly fee, and they have increased the price significantly since they started it.

(I looked into it, by the way, and no, as a freelancer, you can’t write off something like this, even though in some ways it’s functionally similar to renting a space at a WeWork.)

Gawker Media LLC -> Gizmodo Media Group -> G/O Media -> / Media? Or maybe they can rename it based on the assets they haven't sold yet where the staff doesn't actively hate management like checks notes Quartz? Should they just rename themselves Quartz but with an asterisk so no one confuses it with the original Quartz?

Here’s the problem: Most people are not executives or managers. By nature of management, workers are trying to work.

This whole AI-clones-in-meetings subcategory exists because of this misunderstanding.
