filister,

Do not forget their so-called open document format (OOXML), which is everything but open, and their deliberate efforts to suffocate the competition, by abusing their market position.

filister,

That’s a very strange title, I think in the end the US would suffer more, because China would be able to easily replace this talent, but the same cannot be said for the US.

filister,

I am all about giving people the possibility to put an end to their lives and there are plenty of people who are living almost unbearable lives, full of pain and suffering. And I know it is wrong to judge people without being in their shoes but, part of me is refusing to accept that a person who is apparently, young and physically healthy and in a relationship where the other partner obviously cares about her is so depressive and miserable that she wants to die.

So I have mixed feelings in this particular case and I feel sorry for her family and partner, who I am sure really wanted her to get better.

Nevertheless, I am happy that there are still doctors who are willing to take such cases because I can imagine how hard and psychologically challenging it would be to work with those people and they have my full respect.

filister,

What makes you think that they are not scraping Lemmy too? The only reason they might not be is probably how niche Lemmy and the fediverse are, but I am sure there have been people already doing it.

filister,

The same way Israel is solving hunger with AI in Gaza.

Stalin once said, “Net cheloveka, net problemy” (“No person, no problem”).

filister,

Please remind me, weren’t there a couple of Israeli politicians calling Palestinians human animals and asking to drop nuclear bombs on top of them.

Or weren’t some far right looting trucks full of humanitarian aid for famine ridden Gaza.

I can definitely continue this list or you can do yourself a favour by reading some Wikipedia page on the subject, and while at it you can also check (pick a random non affiliated with Israel human rights organisation) think of Israel’s treatment of Palestinians.

filister,

Hahaha, so instead of reducing their emissions, they are actually increasing them year after year. What a hypocrisy!

filister, (edited )

I think that boat is gone now with Bernie being so old. But yes, you could have elected him and have one guy who genuinely cares about people. But I guess money is before people.

Kind of sad, isn’t it?

filister,

It will be fought with AI.

Israel gave us already a short glimpse of what’s to come. Unmanned drones, with cameras, targeting civilians and killing them without any human intervention, where the execution order is given by the AI. AI spreading disinformation, and flooding public forums with negative opinions about their adversaries.

Whoever has the most money and the most advanced technology will rule over the poorer and less technologically advanced nations.

It is a bleak reality/future.

filister, (edited )

You do realise that if Israel wanted they could have flooded Gaza with humanitarian aid, and all those equilibristics with air drops and floating piers would not have been needed, right?

This is in a way like an open admission for the US that their closest Middle East Ally is using hunger as a weapon of war and they are trying to appear the good guys, while sending even more weapons to Israel to “defend” themselves.

filister,

You ever wondered why traditional carmakers are pushing so hard for hydrogen? That’s because they can still reuse those super inefficient combustion engines, which they perfected in the last 50-100 years, and which is serving as a big gatekeeper to newcomers.

And with EV, they need to start from scratch like everyone else and they hate it.

filister,

New OLED screens are very resilient to burn-ins. You can check for yourself. And mind you, the majority of users won’t have any problems with burn ins because of the way they are using those monitors, this test is far from how the majority of users will use their monitors. …oxymagnesium.com/…/rtings_10_month_update_perman…

The DP1.4a supports maximum 4K at 120fps, everything above that is using DSC (display stream compression).and if I am not wrong adds a bit of latency and a bit of processing overhead, because your GPU has to compress the frames. Additionally the compression adds some loss to the equation, but according to reports it is very hard to distinguish it from the lossless picture.

It is not a big deal but it is nice to have support for DpP2.1. DP2.1 has more than double the bandwidth of DP1.4a, meaning that it supports 4K 240fps, introduces FEC (forward error correction) and improves the HDR quality.

The bottom line is that if I shed north of 1K I would like to get something which is future proof.

filister,

Yes, I am aware of that limitation, but hopefully the new gen will have fully featured support for it.

filister,

I am waiting for a 4K monitor at least 120fps, that has proper DP 2.1 support. It is ridiculous that even today most of those monitors are coming with DP 1.4.

filister,

Then explain why this is a global phenomenon?

filister, (edited )

While literally creating a second Nakba. Seriously I would love all those far right or even Israeli politicians to live 1 month the life of a regular Palestinian, be it in the West Bank or Gaza. Just one month!

And then they are surprised that Palestinians don’t like them and are getting radicalized. Hmmm I wonder why…

filister,

This AI craze propped a lot of companies to new historical highs. It is of course logical that most companies would like to jump on that bandwagon.

Right now we are on the honeymoon period of AI and I can only guess we are fast approaching the limits of what the AI can do.

filister,

That’s why I also switched to Obsidian. Used it for a while, but the inability to port it to another app turned me off.

filister,

I am looking forward to mods adding some new content.

filister,

The things I like in the PS is that they still sell a disc edition, meaning that you can buy and sell games on the cheap.

But on the other hand PC games support mods and that’s unbeatable. Plus PS games usually work on two generations only and then finito.

filister,

Little known fact is that Israel exists today due to the acts of terror they did to the British Mandate back in the days. And they exist today thanks to those terrorist acts and thanks to the UN.

But of course nowadays they conveniently omit to mention those facts and instead claim historical ownership over the whole of Israel, even though before the foundation of Israel the Jews population in those territories was less than 10%.
