Stunning State Department Memo Warns Diplomats: No Gaza 'De-Escalation' Talk (www.huffpost.com)

In messages circulated on Friday, State Department staff wrote that high-level officials do not want press materials to include three specific phrases: “de-escalation/ceasefire,” “end to violence/bloodshed” and “restoring calm.”...

filister,

I am not American but if I was I would have voted for this guy. This guy is a legend, such a great human being.

I wish there were more people like him in politics, as we really need people like him who protect people and not multi billion (trillion) dollar organisations.

It is a real pity he is so old now and won’t be a president. Humanity needs more people like him!

filister,

I am not defending the atrocities of Hamas, but what Israel is systematically doing with Palestinians isn’t exactly a role model.

filister,

So the answer of Israel of what happened 6 daysis to kill even more civilians and to create unimaginable humanitarian catastrophe in an already occupied territory. And what do you think this will achieve? Hint, it is not going to be exactly long lasting peace.

filister,

Check again the numbers of the civilian casualties on both sides and tell me how unfortunate they are.

Believe me, by the time this escalation ends, the number of the victims of the Palestinian side would be more than 10K. And that would be the direct, the indirect ones, due to lack of food and water would be even more.

And I think after this conflict, even tougher restrictions would be imposed on both Gaza and the West Bank, which would make their lives even harder. Not to mention how many people would have lost their homes and all their possessions.

Can you imagine something like this happening to you, your friends, your family, how exactly would you feel? Serious question!

filister,

Justice for thee by not for me

filister,

And they never built illegal settlements or evicted Palestinians from their homes. /s

filister,

I find BBC’s coverage quite impartial, even though a lot of their human side of the stories is from Israel.

There are also plenty Of Western media outlets who are trying to depict both points of view in this conflict which is admirable, but I presume the media in the US is more opinionated.

I also think what Hamas did was horrendous, but I know that the answer of Israel is not the solution either, and it is a pity just because politics and religion so many innocents from both sides have to suffer.

filister,

Yes, one more cynical man would say that they kind of intentionally let the destruction and the casualties to be so high, so that they can justify the retaliation which would involve a couple of times more civilian casualties on the other side and they can use this as pretext to tighten their restrictions and increase the buffer zone or simply grab that land for themselves.

filister,

Who needs a wife and kids when you can simply have Linux?!? Linux 4L!

The U.N. says the Israeli military told it that all of northern Gaza has 24 hours to move south. (www.nytimes.com)

Israel’s military has informed the United Nations that the entire population of northern Gaza should relocate to the southern half of the territory within 24 hours, the U.N. spokesman, Stéphane Dujarric, said late on Thursday night, adding that such a movement — involving over one million people — would lead to...

filister,

Or fuel, remember, they don’t have water, food or electricity.

filister, (edited )

I wish there was a way for normal Israelis to get the same treatment as Gazans so that they have finally seen what is the real root cause of the problem.

The media is extremely opionated and show predominantly the human side of the Israelis and there are almost no stories about the horror in Gaza. That’s not exactly independent media.

filister,

When you treat an entire nation like livestock and then get surprised they are hating you.

filister,

So instead is Palestinian? Dead. Great logic, I hope your parents are as proud of you as you are with yourself.

filister,

At the same time creators are wondering why pirating became a thing once again. Simply because people are tired of these SaaS offerings that are only interested in milking us infinitely.

filister,

But they are banned to use in densely populated areas because they can cause severe burns in humans.

White phosphorus, which can be used as a smokescreen or a weapon, has the potential to cause civilian harm due to the severe burns it causes and its lingering long-term effects on survivors. Its use in densely populated areas of Gaza violates the requirement under international humanitarian law that parties to the conflict take all feasible precautions to avoid civilian injury and loss of life.
