Why does this drain plug have a chunk of threads cut out? (lemmy.world)

Ran into this while doing an oil change, why is this like this? Why is there a chunk of thread missing? Vehicle is a 2019 Buick Cascada. Based on the look of things, At one point before it came to me the threads got cross-threaded or stripped, there was an attempt to retap and rethread the hole. There was a HeliCoil installed,...

focusforte,

So, you think this came from the factory like this?

focusforte,

Oh hush lol, I’m learning and the aftermath of the failed thread repair got curious because I’ve not seen one like that before, wasn’t sure just how much the last guy messed it up vs what was factory. Other guys in the shop weren’t sure either.

focusforte,

Yeah, the striped threads are what had me looking closer than usual, but not related to the question I had. I was more curious if that cause Cut away section was factory or part of the thread repair that some one attempted before I got it

focusforte,

Lmao, you’re so mad 🤣 and you’re not even paying attention. I said the threads were damaged. Stop trying to be an elitist asshole and pay attention. As I pulled the drain plug out the attempted repair pulled out with it. What you’re seeing here is after it was cleaned back up and I could finally see it better. The other tech had already started tapping and recutting the threads.

How about instead of calling me a dumbass you actually try to be a decent person?

focusforte,

Interesting 🤔 I’ve seen some with drain holes in the threads, but this is the first one I’ve seen with such an excessive cutaway.

focusforte,

They did provide a shop toolbox, but the implications seemed to be that these are what I can use until I get my own, not something I should expect to use forever.

focusforte,

Yeah, that’s like the child throwing a temper tantrum because they don’t want to clean the room. That doesn’t actually solve anything. Unless you’re going to start rolling heads and starting an actual violent revolution, you’re not doing anything. And instead you’re just making it more difficult for the rest of us to keep shit together.

The lawyers of one of the options are literally arguing in court that presidential immunity means he could carry out an assignation of their political opponent and be immune as long as his party has enough power to avoid an impeachment conviction.

I miss Google Plus for this exact reason! I really wish they wouldn’t have given up on it and just stuck to their guns. Kept it long enough for people to give it more of a try.

focusforte,

The problem is inherent to Bluetooth, The only way to make it not be like this would be to make things dramatically more difficult to connect to things over Bluetooth.

I don’t feel like I’m to the level of Pokémon professor, but I do feel like I would be something along the lines of a Pokémon teacher or maybe the gym guy.

Tips on making your data less sellable?

A charity I’m volunteering for and a contractor I know insist I have a facebook account for contact reasons. Naturally I bought a separate device to use for that, but I was wondering if there were ways to make my data undesirable to potential buyers. So far I got the obvious tiennamen square posting and that gay putin pic, but...

focusforte,

Simply have the pages blank as possible, and use a pseudonym. Shit posting Is it going to do anything to make data less desirable. Just follow all of the typical advice for staying anonymous on the internet.

Also, insist on only using the secret message feature of Facebook Messenger. Those messages are and to end encrypted and at least if you believe facebook, not even Facebook can access them.

Lemon pepper chicken, take chicken breast, slap it in a pan, fill the pan with lemon juice, So that the chicken is effectively soaking in it while it cooks, put copious amounts of lemon pepper seasoning on the top of the chicken breast, Wait until fully cooked. It’s absolutely delicious!

Check your actual uptime in the system, because oftentimes just because your computer has visibly shut down, doesn’t mean that the system has actually shut down. Oftentimes it just goes into hibernation instead, Which doesn’t reset your uptime.

Edit: before you down vote me, have some extra context. Microsoft changed the default behavior for Windows 10 and 11, when you click shut down in your start menu It will do this deep hibernation instead of actually shutting down. They save state your operating system effectively, and then shut down, and then when it boots back up it restores that save state. They’ve done this in an attempt to speed up boot times for most people. All of your things that run on first boot don’t actually have to rerun if you’re not booting all the way from scratch. If you’re just restoring the state from before the shutdown, it’s like you never shut down at all. This means that your uptime often doesn’t get reset unless you actually do a restart.

focusforte,

The reason why I suggested still checking up time is because sleep and hibernation are different. In sleep. Yes, your RGB would stay on. In hibernation the power to the device is completely shut down but the state of your computer is saved to disk and restored when you power it back on. With some computers you can even completely unplug the power from the device and plug it back in and when you boot it back up you would still resume without resetting uptime.

This is the new default behavior in Windows 10 and 11 when you hit shut down. With Windows default behavior right now they’ve basically replaced shut down with. Your uptime only actually gets reset when you restart, not when you shut down and then power on later.

Pokemon Go. It makes a normal walk have a layer of catching pokemon on top of it.

focusforte,

Cats have an average lifespan of about 15 years, so it’s doubling from 15 to 30 on average.

focusforte,

Yeah, but that discussion can still be legally problematic.
