It bugs me when people say “the thing is is that” (if you listen for it, you’ll start hearing it… or maybe that’s something that people only do in my area.) (“What the thing is is that…” is fine. But “the thing is is that…” bugs me.)...
Knitting. Always see people do it on the subway or watching tv without paying attention or trying. Spent a few hours trying to learn once and couldn’t do it.
6th floor, no elevator. I think of it as part of my daily exercise. It doesn’t bother me day to day, but moving in sucked. I think I would be annoyed waiting for an elevator.
Yeah I don’t mind ads if they’re relevant - I scroll through insta reels from time to time, and am always getting ads about concerts I’m interested in, restaurants I haven’t tried and sales at shops I go to.
I honestly don’t mind so much, and if it’s not relevant to me I can scroll past without having to watch.
In order to use the platform in the EU, you either opt into personalised ads or pay a monthly subscription. So yes, I’m aware they’re using my data for the ads.
Google does as well, but they don’t seem to be able to offer me even relatively relevant ads based on my interests.
I recently saw ‘Don’t Look Now’ (1973). Good picture, a little slow perhaps by today’s standards but worthy of any movie enjoyer’s time! So this movie was shot in Venice. Venice itself being an already beautiful spot to film even today. The way we get to look in a time capsule of Venice in the 70s makes the movie that...
I would say a lot of Spielberg’s work. It just doesn’t seem to age. I watched Munich a few weeks ago, and to me it could have come out yesterday. Same for Saving Private Ryan or Schindler’s List.
So I saw THIS Atlantic article linked on Bluesky and I found myself conflicted, nodding in agreement with almost everything the author wrote, yet simultaneously thinking he sounded exhausting and pretentious himself....
Are you focusing on the main story? I felt that if you treat it as more of a linear game, and just go directly from mission to mission, it’s quite enjoyable. There are some great side missions, but the other open world stuff never clicked with me.
I have been reading a lot lately about not wearing outside shoes in the house and it interests me even more because I’ve been saving to re-carpet my whole house. It hits me every now and then about how to do things though, like, say I’m cooking all day on Sunday then need to take the trash out. I’m assuming it’s change...
I learned from TV, American shows like Seinfeld or Simpsons where the characters are always wearing shoes. Growing up in Canada we didn’t do that and I thought it was weird
I’m re-watching The Magicians with my wife, since she’s never seen it. It’s been long enough since I watched it last that I don’t remember a lot of things that happened, so there’s a lot of “I forgot got that!” moments for me, which is fun.
Rewatching The Wire right now. I started clicking on a bunch of clips and my algorithm kept feeding me more so I figured I might as well just watch it all again. Never gets old for me anyway.
I recently set up a LLM to run locally on my desktop. Now that the novelty of setting it up and playing with different settings has worn off, I’m struggling to come up with actual uses for it. What do you use it for when not doing work stuff?
I use it for a jumping off point creating an itinerary for trips. Asking to create a 3 day itinerary with a mix of recommended restaurants, bars and cafes in between has been really helpful. The google maps links usually don’t work but you need to confirm the places still exist anyway, and adjust as needed.
Some larger stores in Germany have this. It’s super annoying if you don’t buy anything, and have to ask to be let out or wait until someone else leaves.
I picked this up over the summer, but didn’t get too far into it before spending some extended time away from my PC. Will be looking forward to checking it out next year.
I do hope they manage Steamdeck support by then – I remember it working okay when I tried it, but I think there was poor controller support.
Edit: 10/23 I took a lot of advice from here, I bought an avocado yesterday and I tried it today. It was perfect! The taste was incredible. I didn’t need to salt/season it to hide anything. I am in a different state right now but when I get home I’ll buy one at home using my knowledge I now have and hopefully it’ll be...
I’ve had a few experiences recently where the stem wiggled, and the skin was browned nicely, but when I cut into it and tried to peel it, the bottome part was extremely hard and difficult to separate from the peel, but the top part was easily peeled and ready to eat – Do you know what causes that or how to avoid it?
