ftbd,

ftbd,

What kind of machine do you use as a client? And how does performance compare to playing on the server directly?

ftbd,

Not saying you’re wrong, but the conditional probability P(Mauled by bear | encountered bear) is way higher than the total probability P(Mauled by bear), and an argument of this kind should be based on the conditional probability.

ftbd,

Don’t forget: Files have execute permissions by default!

ftbd,

Oft hat man zu dem Zeitpunkt doch schon ein paar Monate daran gearbeitet, nur noch nichts aufgeschrieben

ftbd,

Are you starting fresh or did it work with another DE? Might help in tracking down the problem

ftbd, (edited )

With plasma 6, you need

services.xserver.displayManager.defaultSession = “plasma”;

instead of " plasmawayland", since wayland has become the default

ftbd,

I just use gzip because it’s built-in

ftbd,

Usually, there is a 3 phase outlet in the kitchen for electric stoves

ftbd,

I’m in the EU. How do I download movies I purchased on Amazon?

ftbd,

Resistance is futile. You will be torrented

ftbd,

There’s no shame in dual booting. Moving all your non-gaming stuff away from windows is a big step in the right direction.

ftbd,

AFAIK there is no netflix app on linux and browser playback is limited to 720p. And if you’re looking to avoid your TVs bloated, ad-ridden spyware OS I see no point in using microsoft’s bloated, ad-ridden spyware OS instead.

ftbd,

Motorradhandschuhe haben schon so eine natürliche Krümmung, funktioniert auch fürs Fahrrad sehr gut

ftbd,

If you want IOT stuff so bad, connect it to a separate network that has no internet connection. You can then interact with most devices with something like home-assistant

ftbd,

Just to share my recent experience: I found that games of that size compress quite well. So if you’re using a filesystem like btrfs that supports transparent compression, you can fit much more onto your disks, at the cost of slightly slower reads and writes (M.2 ssd). With my HDD, compression actually increased write speed!

ftbd,

Idk, the whole “Megacorp is forced to do reasonable thing, but will still only do so in regions where the law applies” should further encourage people to move away from all their crap.

You just finished setting up all your services and it works fine - how do you now prepare for eventual drive failure?

I know that for data storage the best bet is a NAS and RAID1 or something in that vein, but what about all the docker containers you are running, carefully configured services on your rpi, installed *arr services on your PC, etc.?...

ftbd,

By using NixOS and tracking the config files with git

ftbd,

Isn’t professor a higher title though?

ftbd,

Interesting; I’ve literally never heard of this (EU)

ftbd,

Best? Better than not using chrome in the first place?

How do y'all deal with programs not supported on Linux?

I’ve been seeing all these posts about Linux lately, and looking at them, I can honestly see the appeal. I’d love having so much autonomy over the OS I use, and customize it however I like, even having so many options to choose from when it comes to distros. The only thing holding me back, however, is incompatibility issues....
