gelberhut,

I remember when extreme political views of main Lemmy Devs (which are/where admins s of lemmygrad as well, if I recall correctly) were discussed here several times, people suggested to ignore them and focus on their work. Donate for Lemmy development, not to the persons…

what concrete solution do you see, switch to kbin? Continue to separate development from their other activities?

gelberhut,

In this thread people often talk about “a contributor”. However, lemmy’s the core dev teams has a very specific “political view” which is coupled with the project. The project was started to serve people with that “political view”. And this makes really hard to decouple project and the people who drive it.

gelberhut,

I guess, it gives openai some protection from legal attacks and from people who do not understand what they are using - same thing as “very hot drink inside” written on s coffee cups.

gelberhut,

In an interview I have seen, google said that price of this cloud computing is their concern and reason they limited this feature for now. This sounds fair enough for me.

However, I find this is a very bad and misleading practice to call something a feature of a phone, while in reality it is a “free could service” (video enhancement in this case).

gelberhut,

A diet is about 75-80% of being fit. I would recommend first reducing weight via a diet with general activities like walking, and then start intensive exercising.

gelberhut,

Yes, and that selfhosted code is written by someone else - it cannot be trusted.

This selfhosted, selfwritten code is ok, but wait the hardware is not defined by you - it cannot be trusted!

gelberhut, (edited )

Ridiculous conspiracy about “definitely spies”, especially in the android community.

I remember someone tried to sue Google for reading his emails, because Anti-Spam must “read” mails to detect spams.

Anyways, for people who are afraid of cloud spions nothing is changed, for people who are interested in Google assistant boosting GA with bard is a promising improvement.

gelberhut,

This was a joke. I have problems neither with the keyboard driver nor with cloud services as such. Both can be ok to use or not - one needs to apply common sense.

OpenAI made chatgpt unusable when chat history is turned off

I use chatgpt with chat history & training setting turned off. After September 25 update, it has been difficult to use on that mode. It automatically refreshes the page 5 minutes after I visit another tab or app. I had to enter the commands again. I think this is intentional to force users to turn on data history setting. Has...

gelberhut,

For me all works as before. I doubt openai would use that dirty tricks just to collect your data, this isn’t worth the risks.

gelberhut,

You overestimate value of your unlabeled chats with chatGPT and underestimate potential risks for openai.

They do not need to use so shitty tricks, most of the people keep history because it is useful for them.

gelberhut,

Theoretically it is. But as of now it is completely up to you to interpret the result.
The new feature, as far as I understood, is an algorithm which combines SpO2 together with other metrics and provides a prediction.

gelberhut,

Wearos screenshots I see do not look interesting.

This type of on-the-watch navigation komoot offers for 2 years or so.

And generally for hiking komoot is the best I found.

gelberhut,

Yes. Having navigation support on the wrist is really helpful and reduces distruption if implemented well.

gelberhut,

So, no phone, no compass, no map, no nothing?

gelberhut,

Interesting interview, thanks for sharing!

gelberhut,

BTW, any info about pixel watch update policy?

gelberhut,

New technology brings new risks. Sell stuff via the internet? Are you crazy?

I assume they simply expect that the risks can be addressed.l. and generally I tend to agree with them. We somehow managed the fact that Google search results are not 100% accurate or Wikipedia articles can be hijacked.

gelberhut,

if wired charging has no any benefit one can “sell”, this is a downgrade.

gelberhut,

yes, but google itself claimed nothing. If it would really reduce heating and reduce energy needed to charge the watch - google would mentioned this - this is good for the environment.
according to data I have seen charging speed improvement is formal like 65 min instead of 70 for 0 to 100% and same time from 0 to 50%

I assume that the real reason either cost reduction or space for extra sensors.

gelberhut,

The same things people say about every new technology: computers, internet, smartphones etc. I use my smartphone very differently compared to 10 years ago. And apps which existed 10 years ago are very different now and require different HW. CPU progress is slowing, but AI focused hw could be the next wave.

gelberhut,

I have a different impression about new AI features backporting plans, but we will see. My point is that ai targeting HW can potentially drive the next smartphones evolution, which is slowed down currently.

gelberhut,

The thing is more complicated than than. Moreover, there is a wish/needs to train/fine-tune models locally. This is not comparable to initial training of chatGPT like models, but still require some power. Juts today I read that some pixel 8 video improvement features will not be ported to pixel 7 because they need tensor 3 power.
