I love trying a new language on Duolingo because it points out plenty of weirdness in English. For instance, why did I use an 's' for the third person singular?
We are at the end of the print runs for Sig: Manual of the Primes and Sig: City of Blades. If you want one of the last, beautiful hardcover planar fantasy books, now is your chance. #rpg#indie
A new episode of the #RPGDesignPanelcast is up featuring @megueyb@lumpley discussing Powered by the Apocalypse games in 2023. It's fabulous and worth a listen.
I hope folks at #ukge24 are having a blast! Our games are available at UK Games Expo stand is 2-386 with our friends at Compose Dreams Games Marketplace
I just finished devouring "Stealing the Throne" by the excellent @ickbat and it meets his usual high standards of quality game design. Let's unpack this giant mecha, shall we?
As I continue to run After the War, I continue to gain new insights into the mechanics. There is one small sub-system that absolutely sings when it's used but people rarely pick up on it in practice. I am uncertain whether it is a problem with the design itself or of how it's communicated.
I think we ought to talk about Lumberjills, by the Mo Turkington of Unruly Designs. She led War Birds project, an award-winning anthology of games about women in World War II.
@genesisoflegend When I initially saw the teaser page, I was super hyped for Lumberjills. When I discovered it was a LARP, that enthusiasm went down to almost zero. I am immunocompromised myself, so any in-person games are still not a option, and I simply won't buy a game I can't run online.
I also expected the game to be a lot queerer than it seems to be (there are queer romance options but they seem to be the exception rather than the norm). Otherwise, I'd be 100% all over this!
@genesisoflegend Everything else you mentioned (focus on women's experiences, no combat) plus the historical setting would be a huge benefit in almost any game for me! I just really wish this wasn't a LARP but a TTRPG that can be played online and without touching. 🤷
(Which I think is one more reason TTRPG players hesitate to get into LARPs in general - they're just a rather different way of playing together.)
That said, I still think your analysis is pretty spot-on more generally!
Do you want to help support indie creators, encourage positive stories of comradeship and support immunocomprimised designers? Now is your chance to spread the word.
@genesisoflegend@621393 Loved the content. Highlighted a few things about licensing that didn't even occur to me. I'm hoping someone legalwise figures out a way to help designers keep out of license products available in some form.
Pity about the audio quality. I wonder if running it through Adobe Podcast would help with the whooshes? (https://podcast.adobe.com/enhance)
