Conspiracy theory time.

(This is mostly in jest. Mostly.)

Phones, even when "turned off" are still active and can still do things. The fact that modern phones don't have removable batteries is so that the surveillance state (whether formal or capitalists) will always have an in on you.

    The latest episode of the is all about Adapting Someone Else's Sandbox, where @ayvalentine and @boymonster discuss the challenges and triumphs of producing licensed RPGs! https://genesisoflegend.podbean.com/e/episode-371-adapting-someone-elses-sandbox/

    Miyagiyoda,
    @Miyagiyoda@dice.camp avatar

    @genesisoflegend @621393 Loved the content. Highlighted a few things about licensing that didn't even occur to me. I'm hoping someone legalwise figures out a way to help designers keep out of license products available in some form.

    Pity about the audio quality. I wonder if running it through Adobe Podcast would help with the whooshes? (https://podcast.adobe.com/enhance)

    Miyagiyoda,
    @Miyagiyoda@dice.camp avatar

    @Scio @Nariom Modiphius put out very good products. Star Trek Adventures is the best Star Trek rpg created. 2d20 mechanic is flexible. Momentum is marmite, I happen to love it, but metacurrency is a mindset. Infinity is 2d20 with the crunch dialled up. Dishonored blew my mind where they jiggle it so that intent is stats.

    All aside, they do licences thoroughly and wth respect. GURPS Discworld plays it straight. A One In A Million Chance At Adventure goes Noir Mystery. They're testing their take.

    Government agencies are many things, both good and bad - and one of the things they also are is the institutional memory of society.

    Often, it gets a start with some crisis in the past. "There's a fire/a flood/an earthquake/untreated sewage overfilling the city. How do we deal with it?"

    Then, after the initial crisis is over, some sort of government agency is formed to deal with this kind of crisis and either be more effective at fighting it, or preventing it from occurring in the first place.

    Sometimes the kind of crises that triggered the creation of the agency no longer occur. Often, the agency will take on all sorts of other jobs to expand its mission and grab more power.

    But often, the agency just quietly continues to do its work and the type of crisis they are fighting vanishes from the public eye until people question why they ever needed that government agency in the first place.

    Which brings me to my usual rant of "people don't respect how complex civilization actually is..."

    Speaking of childhood food memories, is cinnamon sugar just a (US) Midwest thing? My mom would combine cinnamon and sugar and put it on toast for me when I was little.

    @montecook South Africa... cinnamon sugar is a staple on pancakes (the thin plate-sized kind), sago pudding, rice pudding, donuts, and melkkos (rolled-dough strips or cuttings, or macaroni cooked in milk).

    @breadandcircuses "Those early results point to the first week of July being the hottest since modern instruments began measuring global temperatures. It follows record high temperatures in June, which were 0.5 degrees C above the 1991 through 2020 average."
    So hottest since global averaging using modern instruments... which could be anything from 1976 - 1991. I can believe that since 1940 was the last coldest time, albeit with fewer and less accurate data points worldwide and in oceans.

    Marching on the capital in a blitzkrieg to frighten away the nation's leadership didn't work in Kyiv, but Prigozhin seems to think he can pull it off in Moscow.

    @timkmak Kyiv wasn't the end goal. Russia expected a surrender and cession of its true goals which did fall immediately. Everything else is negotiation leverage. It's all outlined in the accord Ukraine backed out of with encouragement from its allies.

    @kikobar @kunev @atomicpoet @gruber I have no idea why you would want to defederate anything. Even though you find an instance distasteful, it is better that they exist where they can be watched and, more important, can see content with an alternate view. Wost case you never interact with them becasue of muting. Best case hapless newbies have a chance to realise that there is something else out there in the 'verse for them to move to.
