governorkeagan,

Has anyone here used Qwant? I’ve seen it mentioned a handful of times but I’ve not tried it myself.

governorkeagan,

I’ve been experimenting with other search engines recently so might give it a go.

governorkeagan,

Came here to say this (specifically RDR2). I found the story really slow in the beginning but it got me addicted.

governorkeagan,

I wasn’t aware of this. Will definitely give it a try for work.

[WIP] EndeavourOS KDE

This is the first time that I’ve tried to start customizing my system - beyond using a global theme from the KDE store. There’s still a few things that I’m trying to figure out. For example, I’m not the biggest fan of the KDE panel I have at the top. I want it to look nice but also be practical and fit in my workflow....

governorkeagan,

TIL EndeavourOS enabled that by default. I always thought it was standard…

governorkeagan,

ChatGPT gave me:

“I have decided to move on to pursue different opportunities. Thank you for your support and cooperation during my time here.”

governorkeagan,

I love this!

governorkeagan,

I’ll look into AudioNetwork, it might come in handy for bigger stuff.

What non-FOSS software have you been unable to quit?

For me, Google video search, Google books (Internet Archive is good, but doesn’t always have the same stuff), Adobe InDesign (but in the process of learning LaTeX), and Typewise. As for the Google stuff, I liked Whoogle a lot, but almost all their instances seem to have been blocked or shut down. Also, apologies if this is...

governorkeagan,

Just want to add this comparison between Google Maps and OpenStreetMap. Google Maps is definitely better in some areas and OSM is better in others.

governorkeagan,

I’ve really enjoyed using MagicEarth. I’d probably move to Organic Maps if they implemented routing for other public transport besides trains.

governorkeagan,

If I get a chance I’ll try help out there as well.

but it starts to feel like a chore :s

I find that this happens with me when I start trying to add too much detail from the start. I’ll get overwhelmed at how much there still is and then it feels like a chore.

I’ve started just adding building outlines and then once that’s done I’ll go add some more detail to a couple places.

governorkeagan,

I LOVE looking at before/after screenshots. Especially when there was nothing there before or very little and then someone comes and adds a whole bunch of stuff.

governorkeagan,

I’ve noticed two things.

  1. I am a lot more active. On Reddit I was mostly just a lurker. On Lemmy I want to comment and post.
  2. Following on from 1. It feels more like a community here, on Reddit after a post had a certain number of comments/upvotes, I knew that mine would never be seen. I don’t have that feeling on Lemmy.
governorkeagan,

I do wish some of the more niche communities I followed were more active on here though

This. I have a few communities on Reddit that I loved browsing that seem to be a lot more niche and quiet here than what I was used to. Would be nice to have them here as well.

governorkeagan,

Completely agree! For myself, I really miss the film/videography subreddits. There are two or three here but there’s only a handful of people and they seem dead.

Is there anything unsavory about ProtonMail?

For some reason I have it in the back of my mind that they were at one point accused of being a honeypot for US intelligence because of their association with MIT. Probably complete BS, but maybe not. Are they as open source as they claim to be? Looks like they’re on github. F-Droid seems to think they have some Google...

governorkeagan,

Been using them for 2 years now, I’ve got nothing negative to say. Really happy with their service
