grrgyle,

I go back and forth depending on my mood but yeah, I find lemmy a bit smoother

grrgyle,

Reading books in the same room as someone else 🤤

grrgyle,

I’ve thought about it, and I think most people would be fine if we had kind of “high security hospitals” for those egregious cases that spring to mind (that are of course not representative). But that could be like, I dunno, 1% of the current carcéral infrastructure.

grrgyle,

Love that. Very realpolitik, in a fun way

Google fires 28 employees after protest over Israel cloud contract (www.theverge.com)

Google fired 28 employees in connection with sit-in protests at two of its offices this week, according to an internal memo obtained by The Verge. The firings come after 9 employees were suspended and then arrested in New York and California on Tuesday....

grrgyle,

Like you do it for mutu bux that can be redeemed in the local swag shop for things like seeds (good for 1 growing season) and good-feels (license to make a pop-up community garden in the square (garden for display purposes only))

grrgyle,

I’m curious what you mean. I’ll admit that I wrote it off as plain platform capitalism, just from the headline. But sometimes people come up with these things with good intentions

grrgyle,

Hmm interesting. Sounds a little bit like a woke HOA, but maybe that isn’t awful

grrgyle,

Does that include demo costs?

I think the tree next to that hacked together shed is probably safer to live in

grrgyle,

The Witness.

It feels especially relevant to this community because I’m picking it up again after a hiatus of over five years. I tried back then but got hard stuck on a puzzle that I just didn’t get, and I refused to look up the answer and spoil the joy of discovery for myself.

Anyway, playing it is 2024, after walking around for 30 minutes to refresh myself, I was able to solve almost instantly 😅 so now I’m back into the game and loving it!

It’s a quintessential patient game, with its slow pace (including the walking pace - glacial when compared to action games), and puzzles that you can puzz over in between sessions (even for years like in my case).

I told this story to a friend, and they asked “so did this puzzle take you 30 minutes to solve, or 6 years?” Which is a thought!

grrgyle,

Similar thing happened to my dad. He was slowly going blind from cataracts, like he couldn’t even make out the dinner table in front of him. He just wasn’t mentioning it until it became untenable.

Then we found out there’s a free surgery to fix it, and now suddenly he’s got clear 20/20 vision at almost 80! He’s got better vision than I do lol

grrgyle,

I know how you mean it, but I would still consider civilisation part of nature. Like an anthill is part of nature even if it was “invented” by ants, etc

grrgyle,

CTRL + \ crew. It’s the only way to be sure

grrgyle,

Just bg everything, like I’ve got time to wait for an ls to get back to me when zooming around the dark infoscape

que me cd-ing back and forth between Downloads and /opt wondering why the thing isn’t working

grrgyle,

Might I interest you in a career in DevOps. I think you’d be a perfect fit.

grrgyle,

“hey where do you want this cactus? … Yeah I can wait”

starts doing busker tricks with cactus, bleeding profusely, happy

grrgyle,

Sharing system clipboard with buffer 0 changed my life

grrgyle,

Middle mouse button checking in

grrgyle,

My sister worked on Screamers! It’s so much fun.

Great list

grrgyle,

For action movie fans, I’ll always recommend The Raid: Redemption. It’s a good gateway to martial arts movies, which can lead to a whole slew of other more esoteric recommendations

grrgyle,

I’d consider myself a rookie as well. Other than the classic Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan stuff, there’s Oldboy, Ip Man, chocolate.

Checking what else those performers have been in can be a good way to branch out to other titles.

grrgyle,

Hmm almost seems preferable to stay “normal” and try to come up with elaborate coping mechanisms.

Like I can’t do a single thing at work without writing it down on a pad of paper. It’s like my conscience and short and long term memory and fidget toy all wrapped in one.

grrgyle,

Man I’ve been taking it easy at work ever since getting layed off; anyway, but a co-worker of mine on the same team works like a demon. Easily, easily closing double the tickets that I do.

Anyway, young guy, good for him. The shitter is we both got the same piddly little 2% raise.

I’m working my wage and not planning to stick around anyway, but I feel bad for those who aren’t totally jaded yet. It’s so disappointing

grrgyle,

Haha don’t even get me started on cost of living. Groceries have almost tripled in price since I started working. Nevermind rent.

grrgyle,

Yeah the only real raises now are random COLAs to stop employee exoduses, and of course, changing jobs.
