personally, i am happy to have my taxes pay for undocumented, non-tax-paying humans who need healthcare... mostly because i care about humans regardless of their tax paying status and that i dont think any humans should have to pay directly for healthcare.

ive had this argument going for at least a decade. I agree with you, it is not social media. i dont think forums are social media any more than usenet.

its why i calll my instance a 'nonsense aggregator', as your verbiage also alludes to.

that said, im using an mbin server.. and the microblog/twitverse piece does seem to jump into the social media arena. so my server product is now integrated with that category whether i like it or not.

its been fun. ive been sailing the seas for.. shit... since inception. remember Myth!? watching all these providers come and go is almost entertaining.

the only real affect ive ever felt was once streaming became a thing, that content became higher quality and hits the water far faster than it used to. so, thanks for that!

ive been running storage devices (nas) since the late 90s... for media server its been MythTV.. then later SageTV (google murdered) then XMBC and now its kodi+jellyfin.

initially it was a lot of ripping physical media... it was awesome when netflix came up with the 'we'll send you 7 disks at a time (and then 5 and then 3), i was returning them within hours of receipt. nowadays i have a seedbox/central torrenting server so the kids can help.

i still have MP3s i downloaded on the OG napster.
