I don't speak English in real life, but I prefer to use English when online (expect grammar mistakes in my posts/replies). Don't take my words too seriously, sometimes I don't even understand them myself.

Somehow I want to feel the excitement of building a Pentium 4 PC and installing Windows XP again. I missed that experience. Back then $100 could get me a solid CPU or GPU for a decent gaming rig. The cost of the whole thing was way cheaper than today's midrange Nvidia card

I wholeheartedly disagree with the producer here. The term was never used or intended to be discriminatory. If you keep doing "Japan only" things, of course people in response would come up with a specific term to refer to them but it was done as a form of showing respect. It's the same reason we use terms like JPop, JRock, Jdrama, Kdrama, KPop, Bollywood, Europop, etc.

I only follow slightly over 100 people here, but I can barely read all interesting posts in my timeline. Yet some news outlets reported there's nothing much going on here (can I call that fake news or misinformation?). In fact, so much stuff is going on, now I wish there's an algorithm to 'throttle' the number of posts (so someone who posted too frequently will have fewer posts appear on my timeline). I still want a chronological timeline, but not look like it's dominated by certain people only.

I don't use Mastodon as my only social media platform because it doesn't offer everything I want in a social media. Sad, but until Mastodon and its proponents can be more 'open' to suggestions (and not overly stubborn to adopt new features like a control freak) I will keep using multiple platforms, even if the other platforms belong to big corporations.

halfey,

If I could make my own social media, it would be a Frankenstein social media though. An ActivityPub-based platform with features from FB, birdsite, YouTube, etc. (including features from even the defunct ones like Google+, MySpace and Friendster).

When it comes to spending for IAP in games, people are usually categorized into whales (heavy spender), dolphins (moderate) and F2P. I consider myself a seal though 🦭

Dehya's introductory comment by Official Reddit account is among the most downvoted comments ever (close to -6000 at the time of writing).

Hoyoverse is very stubborn when it comes to players request to buff/fix a 'broken' character. I think they only 'fixed' two characters so far (Zhongli and Yae Miko) but only after overwhelming complaints. Sadly, Kokomi didn't get the same treatment, and some said Xinyan is still broken until today.

halfey,

I think to get Hoyoverse to 'fix' a character, it needs a pressure from either the Chinese player community or the paying players. I remember the most vocal complaints about Zhongli came from the Chinese players, who thought he was weaker than some 4-star characters, and being a god that represented a nation that was inspired by China, he should have been much stronger. Hoyoverse initially refused the request, but later buffed the character (some said there was a govt intervention too).

halfey,

In the case of Yae Miko, people were OK with the way the character's attack skill worked at first. Then Hoyoverse decided to change her attack skill which led to complaints from paying players (people who paid to buff her particular attack skill). These people felt scammed and demanded that Hoyoverse reverse the change. Hoyoverse eventually relented. This was the last time I saw Hoyoverse bowing down to players' demand. I wish they could do the same for Kokomi though.

It certainly doesn't help that CPU prices keep increasing each year. When I first assembled my own PC back in early 2000s, $100 could get you a pretty solid and decent CPU for a mean gaming rig.

Those silly articles about Mastodon having few interactions and losing users make me facepalmed myself. YMMV but I follow less than 100 accounts, don't post much, and I could not keep up with all the posts showing on my stream. Not to mention being on a self hosted single user instance, I don't even have anything under the explore tab, but I still have more than enough federated content to consume.

Chinese smartphone companies, launching a new smartphone in , using white models to promote it. What's wrong with using Chinese models or Malaysian models? Do these people in 2023 still think white models make things more sellable than POC models? Unfortunately, smartphone companies aren't the only ones who are still doing this. Even food companies do too. And not just Chinese companies, Samsung, a Korean company is also known for doing this too, despite their popular K-pop culture.

halfey,

This reminds me there was a new Japanese social media based on Sword Art Online. The social media is only available in Japanese (no English version at all) but it was using white models in its banners and promo materials, as if implying they're targeting international audience. To me it looks like a false advertisement or outright misleading and scammy. If your social media is only intended for Japanese, why not use Japanese models? We should stop perpetuating the "white beauty=sellable" idea.

halfey,

Back to Asian smartphone companies using white models in promo material, to be fair, Samsung have on occasions had POC models too. I still remember the Black couple in an ad mocking iPhone dongle, but many other times they still seem to prefer white models though. I think the old Nokia (pre Stephen Elop takeover) did quite good, where I noticed Asian models in almost every ad they had on TV, despite it's a European (Finnish) company, and Nokia was the king of mobile phones back then.

Waifus I'm tired of: Touhou, Vocaloid.

Waifus I used to like but not excited about anymore: KanColle.

I don't care about: VTuber (don't see them as seiyuu either)

Waifus I'm currently into now: Anyone who isn't from the above, and no one from Naruto/Bleach/One Piece/Hero Academia/Demon Slayer (or any long running series; no offense to anyone who likes those titles). Bonus points if they are voiced by my favorite seiyuu.

Those from Isekai Quartet are among my favorites.

Aku agak kecewa dengan PM Anwar sekarang. Rasanya ini dah kali kedua beliau buat kesilapan dalam tempoh tak sampai 3 tahun. Yang pertama, dia terima katak-katak politik semasa PRN Melaka. Sekarang dia lantik anak sendiri jadi penasihat.

A so-called "single slot" graphics card that requires water cooling should not be called single slot at all. The water block attachment already occupies the second slot, making it no different from the standard dual slot graphics card. Calling it single slot is a deceptive marketing or false advertisement, just like a smartphone using a strategically placed black color on its wallpaper to hide the notch or punch hole.

Dr. Livingstone transport requests have been disappearing a couple of times for me lately. I noticed since the 3.4 patch, it no longer puts a marker on the map. Sometimes I ended up logging off without completing it because there's no entry in the quests list or map marker to remind me about it. I reported to Hoyo CS but they said that's how it has always been. Weird. Before this I could always see the entry or map marker, as soon as I received the quest.
