    Man, I've gotten so much better at not chiming in when I don't need to in online spaces over the past year.

    Like, that might sound a little sarcastic, but it's a thing I've really struggled with in the past and I'm genuinely proud of how far I've been able to come. And it's more evidence that moving over to Mastodon has been a key factor in unlearning a lot of unhelpful shit.

    (Definitely not prompted by anything here by the way, there's minor Discord drama afoot.)

    A little bummed I was away for the peak of the wild poppy bloom this year. If the volunteers at my parents' place are anything to go by, it was a hell of a year.

    It's past the spring peak for my parents' garden in general, but there's still some color to be found. My mom's outdoor orchids in particular are very happy right now, and the nasturtiums are running riot as usual. The star jasmine hasn't exploded yet, but it won't be long!

    The wet weather lately has been very good for my mother's sweet peas - this is the biggest I've ever seen them by a long shot! I'm glad they're still up and going, they're one of my favorite floral scents and I was worried I'd miss them completely this year.

    And on a final note, a bittersweet occasion: one of the large agave plants out front has started to spike! Unfortunately, this means its life is coming to an end, but over the next few months it's going to put on a hell of a show. I'll be sure to post more pictures of it as it develops.

    @taber Oh yeah, that's probably from the volcanic field out on the southern end of the Salton Sea! I've been wanting to visit for a while, in addition to the geothermal plants there are active mud pots, and big obsidian deposits left over from the last eruption about 1800 years ago.

    (Also since it's a rifting zone it could technically erupt again at any time, which would be pretty 😬😬😬 if it happens before the sea completely dries up.)

    Friendly warning for other players who have housing and are maintaining their sub during a hiatus:

    I got an email today regarding auto demolition (of which I’m very familiar, I’m a long time player). However, it was set for 31 days after my last login (per Steam).

    This is significantly less than the 45 days I’m used to planning for. I login the first week of every month. I guess I’ll switch to a 3 week login schedule.

    Just want to share in case it could help someone else!

    @britt It doesn't count days since you were last logged in, but days since your character last entered the house. If you didn't enter it for a couple of weeks before your last login, that would explain the discrepancy. (I know it often gets away from me how long it's been since I went in my house when I'm not actively playing.)

    @taber My old neck of the woods in Orange County has some of this going on too, surprise surprise. The major cutouts there are Villa Park (rich people), Orange Park Acres (rich people with horses), and El Modena (a historically Hispanic area that's one of the poorest parts of the county).

    I've been playing around with "Tunisian" crochet, and it's pretty fun! It's about halfway between knitting and regular crochet, both in how you do it and in the kind of fabric it makes. I think the coolest thing about it is that if you work it in the round, you can make neat two-tone patterns that look way more complicated than they actually are. 😁 🧶

    @taber I flew out of Frankfurt at the end of a group trip once. The only thing I remember is that a few of us got lost looking for food and we somehow ended up on the wrong side of customs. 😬 Doesn't seem like a thing that should be able to happen.

    Patrick and I are headed to Europe (Dublin and Paris) for a week in late April. We're still trying to figure out what to do, does anyone have any suggestions on things to check out? Primarily in or around Paris?

    @James I went to Paris in '06, but I doubt these things have changed much:

    The Louvre isn't overrated at all. I spent a whole day there and honestly feel like I rushed it. (Just maybe don't bother waiting for the Mona Lisa.) The Musée d'Orsay is also great, especially its sculpture collection.

    I'm not specifically into graveyards but Père-Lachaise kind of blew me away. I went just for Oscar Wilde but the whole thing is gorgeous and artistically fascinating. It should be lovely in spring, too.

    @taber My partner mostly has Bearskn boxer briefs, they're cute as hell imo and sexy in a "not trying really hard to be sexy" way.

    Most of mine are from Uniqlo because they fit me well and I haven't bothered finding anything else. I think I make 'em work but they're pretty basic.

    @Ninji Definitely eat lots of proper Mexican food.

    It's the Bay Area in January so it'll probably be cold (though not freezing), but it might hit 20°-25°C some days because that just happens sometimes.

    The Pacific coast south of Monterey is absolutely gorgeous if you've got time and transportation to do a little adventuring.

    I'm from farther south so I can't say that much else firsthand.

    @queersamus I don't use much lube because of sensory issues, but I like Tenga's water-based when I have to. It has a fun texture like really thick precum, stays really slick for quite a while, and it washes off better than any other I've used. Probably not the best for a lot of purposes (and my partner reports that it doesn't taste very good), but for my own solo stroking it's pretty great.
