If this is what it looks like, then it’s about fucking time. Hopefully others will follow and it won’t be too late.

Hydrogen is made using fossil fuel energy. Compressing it to liquid is, I believe, an expensive and inefficient process. There’s no magic solution unfortunately.

Google Search is getting even worse for independent sites (www.theverge.com)

In February, HouseFresh managing editor Gisele Navarro called out publishers like BuzzFeed and Rolling Stone as some of the culprits that publish content about air purifiers despite a lack of expertise — but Google rewards these sites with high rankings all the same. The result is a search results page filled with SEO-first...

Can we all agree that whatever version of predictive text we have nowadays is crap, and has been for a long time?

I’m sick of random capitalisations mid sentence. I’m sick of common words being replaced by less common ones or even downright nonsense. I’m sick of it taking three attempts to successfully get the word I want. I swear it’s been like this for five years or more. Can we have a better version yet, or at least the old one...

I don’t know, I’ve used Gboard for so long I don’t notice if it’s good or bad. I swipe and it almost always works first time, if not it’s got the word suggested.

If it gets stuck, I start typing the keys and it usually suggests what I want. Same if I get stuck.

Sometimes I use speech to text, which works about the same and often better. If I could master punctuation with it, I would use it all the time.

When I type on a full size keyboard, it’s shit and takes forever. The speed on mobile is one of the main reasons I try not to use anything else. I can type at about the same rate as I can think of what I want to say. Tapping my fingers, I would have forgotten what I wanted to say before I could finish typing it.

I’m really just typing now for fun and to see how many words I can get into a comment before it becomes dull.

But then again, I never was very good at typing. Maybe that’s why it’s so much faster for me with a virtual keyboard.

Retrain your fingers! Seriously though, muscle memory is a big factor. Get out the habit of typing the next letter, if the word is there just use it. Iirc, this is how they beat speed typing records.

At the time when I was using computers and keyboards at work, and even played Typing of the Dead occasionally, I would probably have struggled to get anywhere near 40wpm.

So not fast at all, but also not slow on mobile. I wonder if there’s a test?

The dishwasher. Washing up is not fun, especially in summer.

Refrigeration is my favourite on your list. Without it, there’s no lager.

The industrial revolution was the biggest double edged sword ever!

The washing machine was probably the next big time saver. Now we spend all our free time on the internet…

I was expecting more changes from us as well, especially last ten minutes.

Ah, now this is interesting. Particularly the blue of the sky. My lab would usually give me an almost turquoise hue, which I didn’t get around to addressing before I stopped shooting film.

I would normally over expose by 2/3rds as the lab guy liked it that way.

Could you give us any info on your settings, development and scanning please?

ianovic69,
@ianovic69@feddit.uk avatar

That’s amazing, I love that you develop at home. I wanted to do that myself at one point but it was not to be.

Thanks for sharing, your images are intriguing in content and the methods and tools are interesting as well. I like the look you get a lot, the reds are so deep but without being too much overall. Very l pleasing tones throughout, the way you balance the palette is most enjoyable.

I notice you have a Rolie 35, do you have any other interesting cameras?

ianovic69,
@ianovic69@feddit.uk avatar

Ha yes me too! I love old cameras and enjoyed shooting film for a few years when I got back into photography.

I have a Nikon F75 and a tiny Yashica. I always wanted a rangefinder but Contax are not in my price range!

A great thing I discovered is that using black and white film really improves your composition. It forces you to see much more in the abstract, which makes for much better images.

I hope you keep posting, there’s something special about film and it’s even better knowing you develop your own.

That’s understandable. I said that I hope you can use the concepts that you connect with, and I tried to imply that to do so you may have to read around the authors.

What I’m trying to say is that these authors are professional photographers and also teachers. We aren’t in their classroom, we can’t request a different approach when it’s not clicking. But they aren’t wrong.

Get past their style and focus on the concepts and, at each one that interests you, use different authors to change the approach.

I also agree that cropping isn’t a bad thing per se, but I do think that it doesn’t really help with composition. It’s another retouch tool to tidy up, like dodge and burn etc.

Additionally, attempting to make your image as final as you can in the viewfinder, can only go to improve your compositions. Practice…etc.

ianovic69,
@ianovic69@feddit.uk avatar

Ha, yeah that’s fair. I’m probably overly pragmatic, engineer mindset!

There’s another reason, which goes back to the early days of Japanese consumer products being exported.

It’s simple, they make up a model name which looks like a code but if you say it in English it sounds like a word. The word is usually sales orientated, so attaches meaning in a relevant or attractive way.

So this EV is called the Breezy Sea - BZ3.

My camera is made by Fujifilm and it’s called the X-E1 - Sexy One.

Battery use on OLED when screen black but not "off"?

Hey, what’s up. I’ve been trying to get my phone (oneplus 8) all perfect again, after I recently decided not to use fingerprint security anymore. I now use a password, which feels right, but when I’m just sitting at my desk it feels like overkill to have to retype it so many times when I’m just checking little things....

If you are ok using location services then you can tell it to stay unlocked at various places. I use home and car.

As always, there is some errant info in this, and there is a great deal missing entirely.

For a much better explanation of composition, I urge you all to read this article on Petapixel - 10 Myths About the Rule of Thirds.

Would it be better if I made a new post? It would just be a simple list and explanation for the post.
