US President Joe Biden has ordered a Chinese-owned cryptocurrency miner and its partners to sell land they own near a US nuclear missile base, citing spying concerns....
Energy prices have mostly increased because the supply of dollars was diluted about 40% since 2020. Central banks silently rob the populace. Bitcoin was ironically created as hedge against money printing.
At least get a cleaning for a few hundred bucks, opt for x-rays, then discuss what your options are for restorative work. Finding abscesses and getting screened for oral cancer is important to your overall health.
The US government can and should be directly financing mining and making lithium batteries. There’s enough lithium and cobalt scattered around the world to not give China full control over the price. The perfect is the enemy of the good. Until a more energy-dense battery chemistry goes mainstream: lithium is our only option to stop burning (some) oil. Batteries needs to be fully embraced regardless of who’s currently setup to profit. China just thought ahead and the US wants to throw a tantrum.
The batteries are about half the cost of making an EV. A $30k car literally has $15k+ worth of batteries inside. The Chinese are prepared to produce batteries today. China will not be able to arbitrarily limit global supply in the future. Global lithium supply is not analogous to oil prices and OPEC.
Lithium ion batteries are not produced by 1 entity and the tech has been around a few decades. People are absolutely innovating better, more sustainable, and less toxic battery chemistry. Lithium is just the best option we have now.
Microsoft is starting to enable ads inside the Start menu on Windows 11 for all users. After testing these briefly with Windows Insiders earlier this month, Microsoft has started to distribute update KB5036980 to Windows 11 users this week, which includes “recommendations” for apps from the Microsoft Store in the Start menu....
I don’t know about the BYD, but the Tesla Y has a 5 star rating from ANCAP, Euro NCAP, and the NHTSA. I’m far from a Tesla fanboy. I’m just genuinely curious why you think either is unsafe.
Syncthing accomplishes both local and Internet transfers and doesn’t need a third party server (if you’re not doing NAT traversal). I don’t think you can send individual files through it’s interface. But you can share a directory and any files you add (or edit) will sync via P2P to other devices.
The cloud is just someone else’s computer. If we could normalize people holding their own data, that would be fantastic. I get that your grandma has a hard time backing up to multiple locations (and testing her backups). Convenient? Definitely. I just don’t think your average person understands the ramifications of trusting these for-profit monopolies with complete control of their data. It seems like a magical refuge to far too many.
Right? Its like saying Jeffrey Skilling went to jail because of stocks. Bitcoin is just a system doing what it was designed to do. Criminals gonna crime regardless of the medium.
As the title states, I have used Nova launcher for years. As it is the most feature rich, most customizable launcher that supports basically everything I could need from it. However I am looking to switch away from it....
OK cool. I’ve played around with blocking net permission for other apps on Graphene and confirmed it really kills Internet access. I’ve been on Nova since I started on Android many years ago. Old habits are hard to give up. I’m in the same boat and haven’t found a replacement launcher either.
"Through our eyes, the universe is perceiving itself. Through our ears, the universe is listening to its harmonies. We are the witnesses through which the universe becomes conscious of its glory, of its magnificence.” – Alan Watts
I feel legitimately bad when I see friends and family obediently sitting through ads. I absolutely do install extensions and 3rd party clients to remove ads. I alslo help my parents and close family install ad-blockers. I just don’t want to be the guy who gets blamed when YT changes something and a 3rd party instance, client, or extension inevitability breaks. Just because I keep up on the latest blocking methods, doesn’t mean I wouldn’t like an ad-free experience for all.
Nah, Transmission just gets kinda buggy when its loaded with hundreds of torrents. Its fine for light use (or perhaps if you have a ton of RAM). But it definitely gets laggy and occasionally unresponsive after running a few days.
