Heh, maybe they'll do a "console as a service" thing. Everything is more and more just digital goods and nobody eg. owns games anymore it's all just "you have a license to play this game", so why bother selling hardware at all?

Subsequent investigations established that the company behind the tool was operating via servers in France. Eventually, it was possible to place a technical device to go beyond the encryption technique and obtain access to users’ correspondence.

Sounds like they physically backdoored the servers somehow. At first blush it seems like the system wasn't very well designed if getting control of the servers allowed Interpol to just bypass the encryption

Oh I read this one around the time it was published, I remember it being extremely interesting. I'll have to give it another go, I like re-reading things to see how they "work" for me the next time around

Deserts look so alien in aerial photos. I guess part of it is that there's no real signs of life visible, so something like this looks like it could just as well be from Mars

Turns out I might have either lupus ("it's never lupus", until it is) and/or Sjögren's syndrome. Got a bunch of incredibly expensive blood tests done today (yay universal healthcare. Oh wait the conservatives effectively destroyed it so I have to use private healthcare and I'm uninsurable due to pre-existing conditions) and now I'm just waiting and experiencing nontrivial amounts of dread. Life was already barely worth living what with my existing health issues that already include autoimmune conditions, so this is just icing on the cake

I don't tbhink that ~8°C thing is a universal "European" thing. I'm Finnish and I've always kept my fridge around 5°C, and food safety authorities here recommend 2 – 6°C

Description of ActivityPub protocol?

Hey does anybody know if there's a description of ActivityPub available that isn't just the spec? I realized I don't actually know how the protocol works, and I'd be interested in learning more. May have to just bite the bullet and dive into the spec – it doesn't actually look too bad based on a quick glance – but a summary...
