I have never used stock Xiaomi software for more than the time it took to unlock the bootloader. The custom ROMs for my devices were jank as fuck too. I will never buy from Xiaomi again. Only Pixel and GrapheneOS from now on.
In two separate cases in the Southern and Central Districts of California, two U.S. Navy servicemembers were arrested for transmitting sensitive military information to the People’s Republic of China (PRC)....
Samsung is probably the worst offender in that regard. No bootloader unlock on Snapdragon, bootloader unlock trips Knox on Exynos and disables basic features like the camera on Z Fold 3.

Back in the day - rooting Android phones and installing custom ROMs were such a big part of Android. I remember so well using titanium backup and Greenify and Cyanogenmod and the list goes on....
I don’t root anymore, not since I switched to GrapheneOS. It breaks the Android security model. On GrapheneOS it’s like fortifying a castle and then blowing a wide open hole in the wall. Just didn’t make any sense.
I have been missing Infinity so much since I switched over to Lemmy. It feels even smoother than how I remember it. Now with the latest update, the slow post loading has finally been fixed. It finally feels like home again...
I’m also a huge believer in open source. I’m using Infinity for Lemmy right now but I gladly paid for the ad removal in Sync. It genuinely is the best Lemmy app out right now. It just works and has so many customization options. Not to mention, since Sync uses Google for ads, when you remove the ads, the ad component isnt initialized so you remove the tracking. So nothing to worry about there either. 20$ lifetime for such an awesome app is totally fair for me. That’s my opinion, you are free to disagree.
I don’t know if this is just a placebo effect, but it feels like there’s a lot more socialization and faster upvotes in the past hour Sync was released.
Hey there, I am currently in the market for a new phone and options from Xiaomi and Poco seem to be always at the top of my choice list. I’m specifically eyeing phones like the Redmi K50i, Poco X5 Pro, Poco F4 and Poco F5. I’ve heard that Xiaomi phones get very good custom ROM support. Is that actually true?
Always best to check before you buy. For the F line that is generally true unless it’s not sold in India like the POCO F5 Pro. The other cheaper lines like Redmi Note are rather hit or miss though.

Why do most newer phones other than pixels have little to no support for custom ROMs ?
I know that most customizability features that were once exclusive to custom roms are available for use right out of the box these days....

Is Rooting still as essential as it used to be?

Is it just me or did Lemmy suddenly became more active now that Sync for Lemmy is released?

Google Tensor has a bright future, but that puts interim Pixels in a tough spot (9to5google.com)
Hopefully the switch to TSMC will work out well for the Pixel 8 series. 🫰
