jacktherippah,
  • If you’re going custom ROMs, always go with an official custom ROM. Go with a well - trusted one that is consistent with updates, not an official ROM that may be dropped at a moment’s notice.
  • Always choose devices that have long - term support and are consistent with security patches like the Google Pixels (5 years). Do not choose brands like Xiaomi as their lackluster updates mean that you will receive late security updates, and proprietary drivers for the components in your device will go out of date in 2 years. Your phone will be insecure and cannot be made secure when those 2 years end.
jacktherippah,

Boy English is pretty tame. My native language has gendered pronouns for what feels like every type of relative you can have. I don’t see my extended family very often so truthfully I don’t even know half of those pronouns. Sometimes a relative pops up out of nowhere and I get all confused about pronouns again. Seriously, like last year at a family gathering my aunt (maybe? idk, she’s my grandmother’s niece) brought someone and was like “heyyyy yall are related come say hiii” and she was like brand new information to everyone there lol.

jacktherippah,

F - Droid --> Droidify ViMusic --> Innertune NewPipe --> LibreTube

jacktherippah,

Too expensive for me. I understand why, like the whole being “fair” thing and all but those specs are not good enough for 700€.

jacktherippah,

I alternate between Ringke Fusion and Caseology Parralax.

Excellent hardware, mediocre software, too expensive. To elaborate on the software, long software update is good. And the iPhone is certainly smooth. However it requires too many workarounds for/straight up can’t do what I would consider basic features on Android. And it certainly isn’t bug free. For the average user though, I don’t think they care about any of that, they only care about the brand, which is why the iPhone still sells so well.

jacktherippah,

I’ll wait a couple generations and then buy one for GrapheneOS.

jacktherippah,

This dress is now connected to a murder attempt. Don’t believe me? Here you go.

jacktherippah,

If you’re considering rooting, I’d say don’t. Rooting is like blowing a hole in the wall of a castle. It breaks the Android security model. A rooted device is insecure and cannot be made secure no matter how many Magisk modules you flash. Do not root a device you do anything important on.

jacktherippah,

I discovered privacyguides.net. good website.

Today, Reddit forcibly removed me (and everyone else) as mods of /r/iOSProgramming, a subreddit of about 130k users. I was keeping the sub private / NSFW | Tanner B 🦕🧁 (@objc@mastodon.social) (mastodon.social)

Update: !ios_dev has been created, temporarily managed by @Ategon until some mods volunteer for it

jacktherippah,

Because Lemmy users are also humans and humans are assholes.

jacktherippah,

Off - topic but I’m really liking these threads.

jacktherippah,

You know, on the one hand, I really want to support the Fediverse. But on the other hand, too much social media is bad. So it’s kind of a delicate balancing act.

jacktherippah,

Use small instances. I’ve never had trouble on lemdro.id.

jacktherippah,

I think it usually just involves look around the comment sections. People are like “I’m on this instance, it’s good blah blah blah.”

In my case though I chose lemdro.id because it’s an instance that centers around a topic I’m interested in.

jacktherippah,

I’d use Firefox for Android if it had working per - site process isolation.

jacktherippah,

GrapheneOS has a built in firewall but yeah anything that creates a firewall should work.

jacktherippah,

GBoard is the one Google app I put in my owner profile. I’ve tried every recommendation I’ve seen and nothing else comes close to how good Gboard is.

When the fuck did a mobile hotspot become something you have to pay extra for?

It’s my goddamn motherfucking mobile data and MY PHONE. I should be able to use it however I want. My wifi went down because the greedy, cunt-faced shitbags at Comcast stole taxpayer subsidies to enrich themselves instead of actually providing the service we’re paying for. I tried to switch to a mobile hotspot and my phone...

jacktherippah, (edited )

No it’s not just an American thing. On my carrier I can have unlimited data all I want but hotspot is limited to 5GB/month and I have to pay for more or it goes down to 512Kbps basically unusable.

jacktherippah,

Try adding some blocklists, maybe the Hagezi ones. I remember NextDNS being quite good at that test.
